Not to change the topic here, but I have a question. Last night I ran firestrike with my msi 7870 ghz edition gpu. My score was just over 7000. I have seen some scores for the 970 at 9000 and some change. Is 2000 more score a big improvement?

A pretty hefty improvement aye. Mine doubled coming from a 580 if that puts it into perspective a bit..

So far so good with this card! No need to oc yet....but am tempted to see what it can do..

Without any adjustment to your power or voltage, that card should boost up over 1500mhz without much fuss.

I can get my G1s up to around 1530 on the cores before they start to show some instability, but that is with a slight boost to power.

Yep you were right, just installed an hyper 212 and tried the quick turbo mode from asus.Got a score of 10413,tried again without turbo and finally got slightly over 10k(maybe from the extra cooling?)Either feel better now.

7000 is quite a high score for the 7870ghz on firestrike. Are you sure of that? In reviews its around 5300.

My bad on my 7870 score. The 7000 was for a different benchmark software. The firestrike was 5495. So yeah a 9000 would be really nice.

I also have some good news! I found a place that may be getting some gigabyte g1s soon.

Have another question before I buy this Gigabyte G1. I just need to clairify that it will work with my system.

    ASSUS X58 motherboard
    i7-975 EE 4.2
    6gb triple channel ram
    corsair TX650 watt psu
NXZT phantom case (modified, removed HD rack to accommodate larger gpus).

The only upgrade for this year will be a possible Xeon X5650 cpu. Will pre-order once EVGA dets my SC 970 on 10/2/14

So long as your PSU has an 8 & 6 pin power connector for this card, you should be fine.

I can hit 1540 on core at stock voltage. What's the safe max voltage I can crank to?

Hah, I just managed to get one of the MSI ones that came up for literally what seemed like 5 minutes. Im going to wait it out, my EVGA is still on the way but after all the bad things I heard I think im just going to refuse delivery and send it back.

Very pleased with the new card, it's so silent even at very high fan speeds (70%).

    Starting overclocking immediatly

Managed to get 1575 on the core (+87mv, power limit 110).
Heaven, Valley and 3DMark (10k+ for the 1st time! :nerd:) ran fine.
Played Tomb Raider, Crysis 3 and a few matches of BF3 and no problems whatsoever.

Though, last night I played a match of BF4 (ultra, 2x MSAA & 135% res scaling) and after 20 mins or so it crashed and gave me a DirectX error:

    "getdeviceremovedreason"

I'm presuming this is due to my core OC, so I lowered it to 1554 and will continue testing.

I remember BF being very picky when it comes to GPU OC (especially memory OC with my 680).
Though, I'm not entirely sure if it was caused by my card's OC, as everything else seemed to run just fine for longer periods of time.
