Good point. Looking at the pictures of the MSI GTX 970 Gaming, MSI made the Fan shroud flush with the pcb to allow a nonflexable SLI bridge to fix.
But the fan shroud on your ASUS GTX 780and the MSI GTX 970 Gaming will not allow for 3-4 way sli. Unless flexable 3-4 way sli bridges available?

yeah, I think I'll stick to 1450/8000 on air, gpuz doesn't report vrm temps for my 970 so not sure how hot they run. Also, running 1.3v just to get to a stable 1550mhz or so is pointless, I'll see a frame here and there, but the card will run hotter and a bit louder (although the noise really wouldn't be much of an issue on these).

For me it's about finding a nice happy medium.

Yes it may, but overall its just not worth it to go to such extremes as idk 8ghz, especially right away on new gpu.. I would rather move up slowly not in one go, you may damage it in long therm.

I just read at WCCF that Maxwell cards will actually support AMD freesync project with the upcoming DP 1.3 monitors , cannot tell if this is real or not , but it makes sense if freesync does same as Gsync then why not have it for cheaper so more people can use it?

    Here you go

your settings will differ, every card will boost differently. But to reach 1450/7800 ish, you can use my settings, should get you close to what I'm running.

BTW, you can leave the fan profile on auto, I tweaked it because 970 are semi passive (they'll go "fanless" in idle) and it resulted in high idle temps (in the 50s). You can play with the fan profile to achieve some good results, at low noise and maintain a cool idle temp.

Maxwell has eDP 1.4 support though which does support functionality like that. So, I'd guess that Maxwell could support 1.3 in the future. Let's see... According to this NVIDIA would support it: http://www.sweclockers.com/nyhet/19346-nvidia-utlovar-stod-for-g-sync-konkurrenten-adaptive-sync

Same applies to all overclocking. When I find the limit I always back down a bit.

I see Nvidias just dropped their 7 series prices as well now to clear them out, 780 Tis now cheaper than most 290xs, only £350 now.

nice! I did it as you. I set user defined RPM on GPU fans to 100% RPM at 70°C and get max 64°C temps in Heaven benchmark. Is it OK for fans in the long run?

Yeah its fine, I flashed all my kepler gpus 680, 780ti to 100% fans and an aggressive fan profile to hit 100% at 70c. Do the fans go to 100% out of the box or are then at 85% max?

Smashing card so far. Who needs water when the latest cards are so quiet! Didnt like the fact the fans didnt run after installing it...makes u think the thing doesnt work. Although the lights on the side means it's getting power. (not only do i get the worry of new card not working I get the joy of wrapping it all in tissue paper in case of springing a leak hehe..)

    My asic is 67%.

This is versus my 580 @930 core. 970 running with no oc. (1920x1200)

    Aliensvp 580 - 75fps 970 - 139.3fps
    Res evil 6 580 - 9175 970 - 15882
    Res evil 5 580 190.3fps 970 - 216.4fps

Gonna do Rome2 and Firestrike in a bit..

p.s res evil 5 is pretty much cpu bound atm..nice jump on the aliens v predator..so with some ocing it seems to be doubling my performance..(at a guess).

Allright, I'll soon be another proud owner of 2x MSI 970 Gaming cards :D Got an SLI bridge too, this will be interesting.

Is it advisable to uninstall my current drivers with DDU before installing the two new cards? (And yes, I heard that the latest betas must be used for SLI to work properly)

ok but now I figure out that one of fans did not spinning! Fixed with little poke. Now i have max. 66°C not 75°C as I wrote :) I guess I broke it when taking of that transparent sticker from card.

Finally bit the bullet on the MSI gaming.

I did want the Asus Strix for the better power consumption and single 8pin connector, but no sign of it being in stock yet.
Cheapest Gigabyte I found in was £290 and really couldn't decide amongst that and the MSI, so I let price decide for me so MSI it was at £270 from ebuyer with free delivery.

Roll on delivery date (fri) :)

I'm kinda interested to hear how those work in SLI cooling wise.

Cant wait to see some more results cuz I have same cpu and gpu atm and I REALLY want 970!

Those games you tried doesnt really seem to put work for GPU since difference is that small...
