GTX 970 Owners Thread - Photos, Links and Details!

Nvidia GTX970 Owner and User Thread
Let's keep all the 970 buzz and discussion here.

    • Which card are you upgrading from?
    • Which card are you upgrading to?
    • Why did you choose the card you did?
    • post your pics and benchies!!

    BIOS FAN MOD

    What you'll need:

    1) First, create a backup of your card's bios using GPU-Z. Save one as a backup, and then save another that you'll be modding.

    2) Use the Bios Tweaker to open the .rom that you saved from step 1 and then set the fan speed to 10 instead of 34. Save bios.

    3) Now, use NVFlash to flash your card with your new bios.
    • place NVFlash into a C:\NVFLASH, as well as your .rom files (stock and modded)
    • Disable your display driver in Device Manager
    • open up a command prompt
    • nvflash -6 "yourrom".rom (if sli, nvflash -i0 -6 biosname.rom, nvflash -i1 -6 biosname.rom)
    • Re-enable your display driver in Device Manger and reboot.

*Will continue to update this portion with new directions and downloads for bios for alternate cards and with different configurations around voltage/boost.

    Wawwww... sweet upgrade man!

I nabbed a couple of the MSI 970 OC. Was sure I was going to get a 980, but here in Canada the price after taxes was only $140 cheaper than x2 970.. so, I ponied up.

I'm hoping they will arrive to store for pickup sometime next week. Gonna be a long couple days!

Coming from a single 670, needless to say, I am pumped.

I've got an SLI 760 config and SLI 560Ti config. Shifting to 760 + 560Ti Physx, and 970 + 760 PhysX config. Finally letting go of SLI :p Might jump back to another 970 though later.

Getting the Gigabyte G1 Gaming, sexy backplate. As soon as its not out of stock lol..

Not going to sell my old gpus, no one here is going to buy it anyway, its of more value with me.

Well I DID have my old 660ti, but it died on me last.. i think june it was. And went back to using my even older 5850 for a while until it also finally gave up. You've no idea how hard these past 4 or so months have been for me gaming wise :p (while waiting for these new cards)

Hey.. the 980 thread is thataway ----->

:) Just kidding.. great purchase! Hope you enjoy your new gpu!

Keep in mind, if the reference cooler doesn't perform to your satisfaction, you can always throw an aftermarket hsf on it.. I've been using a twin turbo on my 670 since day 1, and even at the lowest fan setting, it idles it at ~30 and loads it around ~65.

Got mine today. It's ridiculously quiet. Tried D3: ROS, peaked at 65C (warm day) but I couldn't hear it spin up louder than when in desktop.

Boosts to 1342mhz without touching anything. I might give it a slight overclock, need to look up how to oc these cards before I do it.

Here's the card before the drive back from Novatech in Portsmouth

doh, you're right. I thought this was for the 9xx series altogether :O

And yes, the one I got mentioned it has the "WINDFORCE 600 Watt Out" which I believe means it should be easy to install a Windforce aftermarket.. right?

I tend to not OC video cards due to past bad experiences.. so I try to buy the factory OC ones for warranty and guarantee. Processors I overclock the crap out of. Never damaged a CPU.

I got burned a couple times overclocking GPUs on day 1 and then having them give up on me within a week or so. So yeah, better safe than sorry - lesson learned

Nice bit of kit you got.. that Mushkin ram is very intriguing.. eyecatching.

I will definitely do an unboxing w/ photos. I've also got a good bit of upgrades lately, including:

    - Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS
    - Gigabye Aivia Mech Keyboard
    - Roccat Kone XTD
    - Mobo Keyboard and Mouse tray (awesome for posture)
    - New Office Chair

I plan to grab one of the 34" LG Curved Displays on release as well. Was going to go with x99, but decided against it as my 2600 is still killin it just fine. Felt that a large investment in graphics would yield much better performance since my rig is primarily for gaming.

Overclocked the card to 1500/8000, stock volts. no issues in D3. Will of course test more later on. Max temp was 61C, inaudible from where I'm sitting.

Stock volts too. The card is dead silent from where I sit.
