I'm finally planning on upgrading my current rig. There are soooo many graphic cards now & after A LOT of online research it boils down to 2 cards based on my budget:

    1) NVIDIA GTX 670 or
    2) ATI/AMD Radeon 7970

I will be using only 1 monitor & running in 1080p. I might try higher resolutions but the main resolution I will be using in games will be 1080p.

So which card should I get ? CHEERS !!!!!!

You will be happy with both if you play games with PhysX a lot go Nvidia if not go 7970. If you go AMD look for a GHZ edition if you go for a 670 get a custom PCB or 680 PCB.

HD 7970 is better choice let not others tell you otherwise.

AMD is self imploding currently, yep best choice no doubt.

Having recently switched to nVidia cards after using a few generations of AMD/ATi, I would love to say the 670, but honestly, I'll almost certainly be going back to AMD with the next generation.

Quite disappointed with the GeForce cards sadly.

I had become used to the bomb-proof reliability and features of the ATi cards which I'm finding lacking in the nVidia ones.

If you like PhysX then go nvidia, nvidia perhaps handles tessellation better.
Lets say you had chance between 7970 lightning and a nice 670 and you're not bothered about physx, then without a doubt get the lightning.

Amd has the faster cards, but I wouldn't touch them personally. They are in bad financial shape.

    7970 beats the 670 anytime. 7970 competes with 680 not 670.

    It's a nonbrainer, go for a good 7970.

What bad financial shape lol? :D

I don't care how many graphs and examples that can be posted, a 7970 doesn't beat a 680, you got more volts on a 7970, give the 680s more volts and it's a game changer. sry for off topic.

Yeah, I've thought about that, got any graphs or any links to show that? Cause I'm interested myself. :)

But anyways to the OP, the 670 doesn't compete with the 7970, so definitely go for the 7970.

I hate posting in these threads. But AMD's graphics division is not going any where, regardless of what happens to AMD. They are working on the graphics side for practically every console in production. In any case, I would prefer to avoid speculation.

And for a comparison between current cards, I would refer to THG.

Also, this should have been posted in the general hardware section. I suggest the thread starter contacts a moderator and has it moved.

The funny thing to me is before everyone started posting in this thread I was going to post something like "it's an nVidia forum, what kind of response did you expect?". It is interesting to see so many votes for the HD 7970 even if this is coming directly from a majority of HD 7xxx users in this nVidia forum.

For what it's worth my latest video cards are a GTX 670 and an HD 6870. The only reason I went with the GTX 670 is because i thought ~$279.99 USD plus two free games valued at about ~$50 each was a good deal.

I could have gone the other way though or just stuck with my older HD 6870 (which I still have and use).

More ATI users seem to browse the Nvidia forum than the other way around. I think many of them may earnestly be exploring the possibility of going Nvidia, but until they do, they will always root for what they have. :nerd:

I'd be more inclined to say that the majority of AMD users that browse the Nvidia section do so because they've experience with both Nvidia and AMD, and want to continue learning about both companies. That's less often the case the other way around. Not everyone on the forum has some unsettling adoration for large corporations.

OP: Between the 670 and 7970, the 7970 is the better card. Unless you primarily play PhysX titles there's no reason to go with a 670.

amd's graphics division is dead...more than a month bad performance on late titles...i do not know what is happening...but if i watch nvidia's 310.70 and 310.90 i would hit my head on the wall hard :bang:...i should buy 2 660's instead of 2 7850's...do not make the same mistake and buy red...since the Q4 2012 they degraded their support a lot because of financial problems...RIP:wanker:...
