    Hi!

I am thinking on buying an Asus GTX580 Videocard. I have a Q 9650 processor at 3 Ghz. Will the processor be enough for the Videocard or should i Overclock it? Thank you for your replies.

    depends on the resolution

Overclock it to at least 3.5/3.6 and you will be ok, try to stick to high resolutions, at least 1600x900, you'll be ok as the gpu will then do most of the work... :)

    ^ i agree

with that OC if there is any bottleneck it was will be unnoticable.

Should run fine with a modest OC.

I dunno who it was... Anandtech i think, showed that, more or less, the theresold between bottleneck and no bottleneck with a single GPU was with a C2D at 3Ghz (with a HD5870). So any fast (3Ghz+) Core 2 Quad core can keep up with any current single high end GPUs.

That said, more processor speed is always benefical.

I had a Q9550 that would do 4.3ghz P95 stable on air cooling so I would say bump up the CPU speed as you must likely will have no trouble hitting 4ghz as long as your temps are good.

At 3ghz you will hold back that GPU slightly so an overclock will certainly help, also in certain games which are heavy on the CPU an overclock will be beneficial there as well.

Nothing to worry about if playing at higher resolutions.
