Obviously you won't see a big improvement, you need a C2Q @ 3.6GHz+ to fully take advantage of GT200. You on the other hand have a Athlon X2.

That is an awesome deal... mine is not the superclocked edition and I think it cost me $270 just a couple weeks ago.

    quite sad, since my 9600GT SLI'd get 17000 in 3dmark 06 @ 4.037Ghz... (non overclocked around 16930, overclocked around 17300)

now im definitely waiting for the GT300!!

though running windows XP is not saying much. with almost twice the SP's and more memory, i cant see how this would not give a huge boost...

holy crap, never would have guessed SLI 9600's were capable of that.

*notably these benchmarks are old, on the 179 drivers. i have yet to benchmark further.
i also get 8500 in vantage.

yes, many, many people underestimate these cards. they are powerful.

    Sorry for offtopic.

    I've just swapped my 9800GX2 for a GTX 260 216 !!!

Yes i have actually lost points in 3dmark, but....
The GTX 260 is just so much nicer to game (at 1680x1050) with high levels of AA & AF

My 9800GX2 would frequently stutter in many games as it ran out of vram or because of its puny 256bit bus. Crysis or FC2 were a joke on it, frequent pauses as textures were loaded in & out of vram. Yet benchmark wise it scored higher than the GTX260.

But you can look all day at benchmark scores if your that way inclined, but i'm sure gaming wise eg smoothness as more vram & wider bus, IQ wise because of higher AA being possible the GTX 260 is in a different league to a 9800gtx

some really intersting data there.. some real shockers.

These charts really back up what I'm seeing with my own hardware.. and what I said above. The GTX 260 isnt a huge upgrade from a 9800GTX+.. and the GTX 260/216 and the GTX 280 are pretty close too in many cases.

Seems like there is more difference under vista though... all my data is under XP pro.

Well Ive been playing FarCry2 almost nonstop on both for the last two days.. switching back and forth.. (the two computers are side by side at my desk). The only thing I noticed is right after I load a save the 9800GTX hitches once for a second the first time I move... the GTX 260/216 does not....

After that... both seem to run just as smoothly. Ive been running around and driving around like a madman. I have not done much combat though.. so there might be more advantage to the newer card when there are more character models on screen.

The difference between the gtx 260 and 9800gtx is massive in every department unless you play at 1280x1024 and/or with low settings, also using 3dmark 06 is of little use as it's heavily cpu bound, using a more meaningful gpu benchmark like vantage/3dmark 03 will give you a clearer picture even at the mentioned resolution.

Try playing at 1920X1200 4XAA and 16AF and you should see the 260GTX pulling away!!

My setup handles 1900x1200 fine, but to the OP, things that make you go huh. And looking at the bench marks out their the 260 is not that far ahead of the 9800.

After reading this thread, I am actually having second thoughts of upgrading to 280 SLi and am actively looking into Tri-SLi 9800GTX+ 1G models. Either upgrade will cost pretty much the same.

note that the 1gb models are usles because of the 256mb memory bus u might as well just get the 512 ones they should surfice

viscous rumor IMO!! why would they sell the 1GB if it did not work?

    check this out:
    http:// forums . vr-zone . com / showthread . php?t=248199 (type in manually)

the 1GB version of the 9600GT absolutely pwns the 512MB version in most benchmarks that are memory intensive.

EDIT: sorry, it depends on the card. i just saw a 8800GT 512MB vs 1GB review and the 1GB got the same framerate as the 512MB.

    back to topic.

thats because the 1gb 9600GT's are using the memory n stead of raw prosesing power because of them not been as power full. 1gb is just a con because the 256mb bus cannot acses the memory fast enough y do you think nearly all 1gb cards have a bus higer than 256mb's also there are reviews where the 9800gtx+ 1gb is exactly the same as the 9800gtx+512 even at realy high rez.

lol @ the logic in this topic.

If we use this logic, we can say there is not much difference between 9800GTX+ and GTX 280 since the difference between GTX 280 and GTX 260 SP216 is 5%-10%.

Lol at the people trying to justify how 9800GTX+ is just as good as GT200.
