Listen to the man..'nough said.
Anyone else think that the 9900GX2/GTX will just be the 9800's with 384 bit memory interface?...
Nope, It's not cost effective enough, thats why the 9series uses the 256. I think the next cards will stick with the 256 bit and use better cores to make up the diff just as they did with the G92, probably added shaders. The beast in Nov may use the 'new' (July) core, refine it and add a 512 bus with 1GB of some fast memory.
It's a shame the 9800GTX did not use the 384/768 memory like the 8800GTX. The G92 core added to a 8800GTX/Ultra would have really made for an improved card....
If and when they release a true next gen product, it will be in the 4th quarter just as it always is. Why release a flagship card in July, lol. Gaming is at it's low, there are no new games that merrit a powerhouse card and know one has any money to blow on entertainment. Now in Nov, you get new games, gaming is at a high, people want to spend money for the holidays.
But the only reason to really release a new card is to get crysis working properly on a single card solution.
Thats all they need to do.
Single card, crysis, very high settings, 1600x1200 or greater, 60fps at least.
^one of those please :-D (and another one later me thinks)
I bet this is just a shrunk g92 ie. 55nm. I reckon the GT200 won't make it out of the door till 4th quarter. Probably late 4th quarter. I guess it also depends on how hard ATi come back from 2 generations of no decent competition.
I wonder what 9800gx2 owners feel about this news
saw this coming
yes one of those please
I just hope that people getting these top end cards have the hardware the back it up. But most importantly the top end monitors for the high resolutions that they be playing at. No use unless you game at or over 1900 x 1200 then you will notice difference.
Macdaddy you can use high AAs with a significantly better graphic card (8x or 16x AA anyone ?)
Apparently GT200 is just going to be another refresh and the cards based on new architechture won't be unveiled till Q3. This is just what i've seen gloating about the net.
Well a refresh chip is always better then the same chip!
One can't even run Crysis@1024x768 with 4xAA on High and expect much over 30fps, you do not need a high rez monitor for Crysis @ 1900x1200, lol.
The interesting part is, even with 3 9800GTXs in SLI there is no advantage playing Crysis at modest resolutions, just have a look at Guru's latest tests. A single card is actually faster. Seems like you need one hell of a CPU to go along with the graphics power. I think many of us may find our selves upgrading our whole rig along with new graphics cards for the next gen games.
Once you game at high resolution you will never go back to lower one. I will happily give up AA for the high res. Crysis on my set up average 32fps at 1900 x 1200 on medium settings and a few high ones. But you are talking about Crysis here this game has issues.
