I'd go with SSAA / resolution scaling and perhaps MSAA too depending on how it's implemented but the AMD CHS shadows and Nvidia PCSS shadows are probably pretty demanding too and upping the view distance in the more detailed city areas probably causes a performance hit.

Game seems to run pretty well though all things considered, at least until you start modding it. :D

Ultra grass, MSAA, both Nvidia/AMD shadow settings, Shader quality, and the Extended Distance Detail slider in Advanced Settings are all pretty demanding.

Got it, thank you guys! So, I maxed everything out (not using advanced settings) with 2x AA w TXAA and soft shadows. During the benchmark I'm getting 60 fps. Does the benchmark demonstrate in game performance?

Is there a big difference from soft, softer, softest and nvidia shadow settings? Both in image and game performance?

PostFX is also pretty demanding on ultra and tbh not worth the performance hit, i usually have it on high or very high.

Is it me, or is the DOF excessive in this game? The back ground distant objects shouldn't be that blurry? I have it selected in game and it's not much of a difference with it off.

Is there a bug with shadows? Mainly tree shadows. When I walk over the shadow, there's an invisible box around me on the ground. The shadows in the box show a focused shadow while outside of the box shows the shadow blurry. Like seeing the shadow from a distance.

PCSS? You could try the non-AMD / non-NVIDIA highest quality shadows and see if that solves it, shadows won't be as smooth though.

    Gameplay question...

Will this game hold my attention more than GTA4...it got a bit boring after a while.
Maybe the 1st person view in GTA5 will appeal to me more.....is there more to "do" in the world.....heaps of different things to discover etc?
GTA4 felt kinda stale....like the world was open and huge but lifeless...if you get my drift.

Hard to say, but MP can be fun - its what you want gta5 to be and live in it lol
There are a few hackers, but very rare.. Was worse at first.

Well I played only mp since rls, didnt try sp yet and to be honest Im not interested in that.

EDIT; 1st person view is very well made, almost too lifelike :D

As someone who really disliked GTA4 I feel I can answer this.
Firstly, I'll say... I'm not a GTA fan. Not by any means. I kind of liked 3, really enjoyed Vice City... but hated San Andreas.

And GTA4... was boring as hell. Horrible characters, a tired revenge story line that never caught my interest... and a most empty, vapid world with nothing to do.

But, GTA5 I enjoyed. A lot. The story felt more playful and fun, like an R rated 80s action movie. Writing was better, and thankfully Rockstar didn't drag out the same old "revenge" storyline once again.
I still find the worlds in GTA games rather empty, as I don't care about bowling or any such crap...
But, I liked GTA5. Liked it a LOT. And the PC port is amazingly well done.

Well this should tell you some thing. I just turned 48 jun 3: i still play GTA 5 MP almost every day. But yes as too what -Tj- said watch out for hackers/modders/cheaters as they are a pain in the ass but you just go too another game like i do. This is how i look at cheating, they have too cheat why because it takes skill too play and they just don't have it BTW: my name is Guru3dsSabbath lvl 151

Yeah there are differences in performance to almost all options ingame, esp between HIGH - V.HIGH - or ULTRA.

I found this guide to be extr. useful:
    http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/grand-theft-auto-v-pc-graphics-and-performance-guide

Also i think the 'box-in-the-shadows' problem can be somewhat avoided if using the Nvidia shadows that will show as more blurry the further to object is to the shadow surface.

ALSO - if textures look too blurry in the distance use Nvidia Anisotr.Filtering 16x and set those ingame to OFF.

Last but not least the Vsync is still broken. I always ALT+TAB out to desktop and back into the game once i've spawned in SA to get rid of all the hickups.

The 1.38 update was released yesterday.
    https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004482908

    Changelog:
New Content – PS4, Xbox One and PC Only

Special Vehicle Races have been added to GTA Online. Special Vehicle Races are a new set of Stunt Races that utilize the Special Vehicles from Import/Export. These can either be launched via the Pause Menu Job list or by entering one of the new Special Race Series triggers in Freemode.
A new vehicle has been added to GTA Online, available for purchase from Legendary Motorsport.
    Progen GP1

New Features / Updates – PS4, Xbox One and PC Only

Three new Special Race Series triggers have been added to GTA Online. These use the same functionality as the Stunt Series triggers added with Cunning Stunts but feature the new Special Races.
A new “Aggregate Position” option has been added to the Races. When active, every player in the race is presented with a bar that fills at different speeds depending on which position the player is in. When this option is enabled in a Lap Race, the Race ends when one player has completely filled their bar; in a Point to Point Race, the player with the most filled bar at the end of the Race is the winner.
Changes have been made to the Dynasty8 Executive website. Players are now presented with a button that reads “Add 2nd Garage Floor”, “Add 3rd Garage Floor” and “Add Custom Auto Shop” when attempting to buy any of the three. Previously, players had to check a small box to add any of these to their total.
Heist vehicles now have a ‘Buy It Now’ This option works similarly to that offered with the Import/Export Special Vehicles. If players do not want to complete each vehicle’s associated Heist and wish to buy the vehicles immediately, they can use the new “Buy it Now” option and purchase the vehicle at an increased price. This includes the following vehicles:
    Karin Kuruma
    Karin Kuruma (Armored)
    Lampadati Casco
    Jobuilt Velum
    Prison Bus
    Mammoth Hydra
    Valkyrie
    HVY Insurgent
    HVY Insurgent Pick-Up
    Nagasaki Dinghy
    Karin Technical
    Maibatsu Mule
    Brute Boxville
    Savage
    Declasse Gang Burrito

Heist equipment is now no longer locked behind the requirement of completing each item’s relevant Heist. This includes the following gear available for purchase at Ammu-Nation:
    Rebreather
    Night Vision
    LCD Earpiece

The following vehicles are no longer locked behind Rank requirements:
    Rhino Tank
    Annihilator Helicopter
    Buzzard Helicopter
    Dubsta 6x6

The camera when riding the Blazer Aqua now retains whatever it is set to before going on water. Previously, the camera was forced to change into third person from first person when going onto water.
The amount of Stunt Series triggers has been reduced from 8 to 3.
Secondary Checkpoints in Stunt Races are now yellow, these were previously orange.
A new “Parachute” option can be found in Ruiner 2000 Special Race lobbies that lets players choose their Ruiner 2000 parachute. These new parachutes cannot be applied to personal Ruiner 2000s and are only available with the stock Ruiner 2000 made available in Special Races.
A new “No Livery” option has been added to the “Livery” section of the car selection screen in Races.
The weekly active Time Trial update now occurs every Tuesday. This previously updated every Monday.

Folks if you are still playing GTA Online then yeah maybe you will get something out of this latest update if however you are coming back to take a look the simple answer is do not waste your time. The entry to this DLC is 1.2Million and for that privelage you will be handed the usual fetch and return quest gameplay loop present in EVERY other CEO, MC operation with the ADDED bonus of now having to WAIT for your 'employees' to build the stock before you can sell it.

Yup you fork over 1.2Mill (the cost of the entry level bunker and for that you get to then sit around waiting for stuff to happen. It's egregious by any standard, you are now literally paying Rockstar to sit around doing nothing (assuming you bought the bunker with a shark card.)
