4A Games and Deep Silver are offering the original version of Metro 2033 for free on Steam. This is a limited offer that ends tomorrow and those who acquire their free copy will be able to keep the g... Grab for free: Metro 2033
While I personally prefer the "redux" edition of both games, there are some people I know which love the Original version. Great stuff!
The very first game i bought on steam back in october 2012. True story. Good game. Great atmosphere. Free is a nice price.
Having played both versions very recently, I can say without doubt that the original 2033 is FAR SUPERIOR to Redux version, imo. I had it bought at full price on release back in 2010 and replaying it now, I was very surprised on how well it aged. The graphics are still very good, very dark and dreadful atmosphere all around. Also the gameplay is far more complex and HARD, you can't just knife kill everybody from range and the mods for guns are diverse, but you have to adapt for every encounter. Also the AI seems to be smarter, and the fact that some enemies have armored parts like helms or different body pads that ACTUALLY PROVIDE ARMOR is something I miss in game nowadays. The only thing that Redux has going for it are the character models, that's it. Everything else, from washed out and way too bright environment to dumbed down gameplay (I could basically just throw knives trough a lot of it) and guns is worse. So yeah... great to have this free opportunity. It still funny how taxing the game can be (but still looks good in accordance to that) on hardware when maxed. I remember the struggle of running it with a GTX 280 (and the replaying with 2x580s).
Saw this over at TPU and it was only for 24 hours, https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/free-games-thread.113782/page-31 Today's freebie on Steam is, https://store.steampowered.com/app/638070/Murderous_Pursuits/
Bought it back when it first came out and hated the game, remember this was around the time we had gotten the second or third Stalker game, so another post apocalyptic soviet era game was just what I was looking for and I was horribly dis appointed by how this just wasn't another Stalker game. I have since gone back and tried to play the game but nope this game just does not do it for me, mind you saying that I went back and tried Stalker COP earlier this year and just couldn't get in to that either. Then again I know a lot of folk loved / love this game so free is always a good.
I totally agree. CS and CoP were somehow just not as horror-creepy as the original SoC. I played it to death with the "Oblivion Lost" mod by Kanyhalos. I even modded it to include all the special effects from the Complete mod. Goood stuff. Since it's free I'm trying 2033 again like you, but I'm going in with the acceptance that it's a linear, scripted game and I'll just have to take that into account if I want to try to enjoy it.
