Why does GPU-Z keep alternating my Bus Interface speed between PCI-E x16 @ x16 and PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x16 2.0? Anyone know? Is it a bug or is there something wrong with my PCI-E slot?

its power saving feature, try and use maximum performance power plan in windows..

or disable any power saving features in bios, its nothing to worry about unless you already have all that enabled/disabled.

I've never seen it do that myself. Maybe it's a bug with chipset drivers?

    Thanks for the replies.

After some experimenting, it looks like GPU-Z only detects PCI-E 2.0 if the card is running at 3D speeds of 772/1544/2004 MHz and stays there so long as the card remains at that speed (I tested it with RTHDRIBL). If the card drops to semi-3D (405/810/324 MHz) or 2D (51/102/135 MHz) speeds then it shows as PCI-E only. The same thing must have happened with my HD 5870 CFX cards too although it is odd how I never noticed it.

Guess most of this has been in the news topics and not here but eh either or should work. :)

EDIT: Well maybe, had to use TechPowerUp since "GPU-Z" reported as too common a search term and that message for both that or using too few characters.

Might have missed a newer thread from that.
