If they were being tested by Hilbert right now, that would be one thing. But around the corner most likely means 4-5 months away, at best, before anyone can actually get their hands on Zen 3. I wanted to wait it out too, but I finally got bored, and decided not to wait the rest of the year (3 weeks ago). I'm thrilled with it (3800x). And unlike my (last) 4790K build, I actually have some decent CPU upgrade paths (I literally had none last time). That's if I even care to upgrade, which I don't see caring about for awhile.
Either place hold with a 3600 and go Zen3 later this year or just bite the bullet and get the 3900x. You should not be buying any 8 core Zen2 right now with the 4700g launching in a few weeks.
I realized that after few comments and some leaked benchmarks. I really wanted an 8core and didnt want the 3600, also didnt want (had to be honest) to spend much. Got a Ryzen 2700x for 140$ brand new one left in stock a Gigabyte X570 Gaming X for 160$, Gskill 32gb 3200 cl16 for 115$ and Kingston KC2000 256gb nvme for 60$.
I’m side grading to a B550-I and a 4700g end of month if the reviews are good. I just want to get off Intel as the just keep pissing me off.
Be that as it may your 9900 will still be faster. Maybe you should wait 4700x/4900x and go all out until then chill and dont think about it.
See, its all a hoax man. free games this, free games that. we get nothing ffs. Its freaking nice to have a up to date cpu though.
@Undying enjoy your computer. Always nice to see a new build. Doesn't matter how many I see, and I build countless trough the years, I am always thrilled to see a new computer. Everyone should build a computer and press Power and listen to that special whirr of a new machine posting. A new computer, a new endeavour and nice moments spent. Sorry for being carried away... Cheers!
140$ for a 2700x to hold you over until the 4700x~4900x or whatever they decide to call them, VS getting a 250~300$ 3700x~3800x/xt today, sounds like a good money-saving plan! That extra 110~160$ you saved will make a better difference put towards gpu upgrade down the road. At 4k, there's next to no difference on cpu speed or efficiency as the graphics board is doing most of the work, you'll only notice a difference in DX11 or older DX games that are draw-call limited (usually the fault of the modeler or scene's 3d artist, on the dev-team). Enjoy your computer bud, I went from a 4790k to a 3700x and my jaw dropped. Absolutely mind-blowing. So I set aside a little money each month, and bought a 3950x last week for 645$ plus tax (had to spend all day driving to go get it!), totally worth it for content creation but never for gaming alone as nothing game-like will make it even break a sweat at all / kick up the fans much. I needed the cores for content creation here, but anyone going 3900x/xt or higher for gaming is nuts. So I think where you landed with the 2700x is the sweet spot, and more importantly, the smart spot money-wise. You'll be glad you did in the late fall when the processor series 4xxx is out in the wild. You are a very good person with money and smart to get that 2700x, that requires a lot of self control - more than many folks have! Hooray for not having to eat butter sandwiches for a week. Do enjoy your PC - and those modern instructions help more than you'd believe, never mind the less heat output/power bill savings! *Note: For those who have an 8700k, 8086k, 9900k or ks/kf /9700k, 10600k or higher intel processor, do not move to AM4 platform now, it will not be an upgrade; wait for AM5 in 2021. Seriously, I mean that, unless you get sick of playing games as the fps queen, and want to start making games, it won't do you any good. For content creation, am4 is a good starting point, as when you go from modding games to making them, it requires more computer then most can afford. No, I did not get any free games with my 3950x, but honestly I could care less; I bought a few on the Steam summer sale for a mere fraction of normal price and was happy.
Just upgraded my 4790k system 3700X ROG STRIX-F Gaming x570 16gb gkill trident z rgb 3200 cl16.. corsair h100i pro rgb 240mm aio simply blown away with the jump
3700X is simply awesome. Now, even that we will have AM5 in the near future, that CPU can hold its ground very well.
