i want to redo my system and am tired of intel but is this worth it with the gigabyte gaming 7 mobo? i already have the gskill 3200 RBG 32GB kit 4 sticks
You should be asking yourself if its worth going from a 6700k to a 1700x to which i'd say no. There is honestly no reason to do that even IF you were an editor. At work I've a 6700k which feels way more snappier than my 1700 locked at 3.7 at home. Even the ram at work is just 2133.
I used to just game so yes in a way you are correct Agent-A01... but i also convert video files now but this does a good job at that as well... well for me anyway .. maybe coffee lake will bring something good.. I have an upgrade itch lol
Coffee lake. Or Skylake-X anyways. Depending on work load for sure 1700 is faster but if things use less threads it won't that is a fact. IceVip what do you do with your 6700k? Editor says nothing to me as a programmer Ryzen brought me advantages.
Mostly tracking stabilizing and compositing in after effects but in premiere, where stuff gets multithreaded the 6700k still feels snappier than my 1700. For exporting the 1700 might be like 20 to 50% faster but i honestly don't care since it's only in exports where it shines. If it takes me 10 minutes to make something and 20 minutes to export it (6700k) or 20 minutes to make it and 10 minutes to export it (1700).. what difference does it make. Id rather have smooth workflow.
I upgraded from a 6600K at 4.3ghz to an R5 1600... Even with the lower clock speeds, the R5 1600 actually performs noticeably better. Of course, I'm running Win10 and it likes more cores. For gaming, going from an overclocked i7 x700K to Ryzen makes no sense.
