Hello guys, i hope all of you will understand my english. I am Russian. I have my gtx 260 for about 2 months, and 3 days ago it started artifacting after playing codmw2 for about 1 hour on 60% fan speed. My temps on idle are 49-50, under load it doesent go more than 67, idle temps are high because of the 3d clock mode running allways, otherwise after switching from 2d to 3d mode the game will crash ( just codmw2). My drivers are 196.34, and i have done all the boot safe mod and driver sweeper before installing these ones. Also if these helps, sometimes i open my window to give my pc some really cold air, here outside is -30 degrees, and i am wondering if it could be because of the temperature change somehow. What else i can say... My pc is fully air cooled, i have two fans on the front( 120 and 140 mm ), one on the left side of the case ( 250 mm ), one on the top( 140 mm ), and one at the back( 120 mm ). Also my proccessor is clocked at 3.33 ghz is an E4500 and the voltage is 1.68 (is it too high?), the mobo is an p43 from gigabyte (specs) For other specs look my profile. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx for the attention.
Well try back to default clocks the CPU , I think this is the problem , 1.68v in Air Cooled is Very High , you can try another Drivers too , but I really think the problem is the CPU :O , or it or RMA the GTX260 , my opinion. Searching look like the E4500 is good with high voltages , but for 24/7 I dont like this voltage. You can try lower clocks on the GTX260 to see if artificating , and you can try a FurMark test to see with it artifacting too. The temps are ok , so dont is a temp problem.
Thanx for your suggestion, but defaulting the cpu clocks it will be hell for me playing gta IV... maybe somebody will recommend me some good drivers, or if somebody had the same cpu what clocks/volatge did they had... i will give a try defaulting cpu clocks. and is it good that my cpu on idle is 39-40 and on 100% load up to 78?
i will post in about one hour bios settings, and cpu gpu clocks and all that sort of stuff, would somebody be able help me to sort it out? Thanx.

Revert your GPU overclock (and CPU overclock). My GTX 260 at stock voltage has difficulty clocking over 700MHz core stable. Stock voltage does vary model-to-model though, but it's worth a try. 1.68v is too high for full-time use. Try to keep it under 1.45v. I'm not familiar with the Gigabyte P4x BIOSes, but my Q6600 manages 3GHz with these settings: 333 core clock 9x multiplier 1.325v Vcore +0.2v (G)MCH +0.1v FSB The P43 should be able to handle a 1333MHz FSB without a problem, so you can skip the FSB setting. I'm not sure how the MCH (northbridge) voltage translates to your BIOS though. Also, your RAM voltage does seem a bit low, most kits running 800MHz 4-4-4-12 use at least 2.0v, and usually 2.2v. Might be different on your side though.
Can you get a screenshot of the artifacts? I notice you are using a CRT monitor, so I'm guessing you are also using a DVI-VGA dongle. I had problems with a CRT monitor artifacting using a DVI dongle. Basically, what I would see was the full screen would be garbled with lines and dots. If you can't get a screenshot of the artifacts, the problem may just be your monitor. Another suggestion would be to take advantage of the warranty. You have kept the GPU within temperature specs, so the problem may be a faulty GPU.
i tried to screenshot the artifacts, they do not appear after, and i am not using the dvi-vga dongle, on my video card i have 1 VGA 1 HDMI and 1 DVI so i connected vga to vga... and i dont think is my monitor because it only appears after codmw2, only there. and by the way, the artifacts only dissapears when i log off from windows. something strange is going there
My gtx 260 is not stock voltage, i have 1.18v on the core of the gpu, thanx for saying about ram voltage i will put 2.2 on there i am wondering if it some sort of driver issue... ill try as well to install another driver, would you reccomend me one? because my video card passed the very strong tests like fur rendering in the programm gpu caps viewer, also msi kombustor on that clocks and it went ok... and as well if i will put 1.45 volts on it, the pc wont boot..
Hello I concure with the thinking that the issue is with your rather Hi O\C of your CPU. your simply putting it out past the stable O\C and it will cause your system to crash. I have Gigabyte gtx 260 and a Palit gtx 260 in sli on an asrock M\B the space between the 2 cards is less than 1\4 inch. The Heat produced between the 2 cards at that minimal distance is signficiant , but its not making my cards crash . your problem isnt your GPU and the heat, your problem is the Hi over-voltage O\C on your CPU . if you cant get that cpu tp run the games you play by using a more stable O\C upgrade your cpu to one that will O\C to that level and remaine stable
Yes mate, i am thinking about that, soon i will buy a Core 2 Quad Q9400 hope it will be a good overclocker and also a very bad heat producer ))
