Probably something to do with the bus arrangement? I agree its weird and its probably a design limitation.
Vram is not always the winning point tbh i don't think 3080 bottleneck Vram even in 4k content which its designed for
I'm sure they've all been claimed already by miners in backdoor deals with distributers. In other words, this release means nothing to gamers.
Marketing, pure and simple. More vram = more sales at higher prices regardless if GPU is capable of utilizing it (like the 2060 with 12gb).
to be fair more is technically better but even with a million of them we still can't buy one for MSRP unless they have hundreds of thousands(if not millions) of them in stock
Like the awful Nvidia FX series. Only the FX5900 was a good card, the rest and especially the LE versions were crap. I remember having an FX5700LE 256MB (that was a lot, but 64-bit mem bus and slow as hell!) which could barely run EverQuest 1 with any shadows enabled. Good and bad times. Good thing that card didn't cost me a kidney. Even if the FX5200LE would be released today it would go for $500+ just because....
And here I have two GTX 670s and three GTX 570s all with EK water blocks just lying in my drawer. Maybe I should ebay them
