I have exactly the same version but for GTX 980. While this is a solid and good product, the Air cooling nowadays is sadly insufficient. On 1440p modern games two of those 980's heat is very fast over 70c or even 80 right away. So I always have to monitor temperatures and limit FPS to be able to hold them below 70c.

Sadly it is impossible to install hybryd cooler on those as they have non standard PCB (longer).

    Good card otherwise.

You need good exhaust in a case with this card+cooler equipped, right?

Why would you? Its not like its going to die if it sits even @ 80C, heck most likely it wouldnt overheat @90C

And if you go through the trouble of getting a hybrid cooler, you might as well go for a full cover block for water cooling if you already have a loop.

I had several cards burning out simply as they were over 80c. Never again.

i still use as a PhysX card on a computer a GTX 260 that have been many many time over 100°c on long period when it was main GPU (from the time where there isn't trottle down when hot lol)... it's still 100% effective.

Yeah, I gave my friend a 8800GT that she played COH on for like 5 years at 85C+, she still uses it. Those cards he had fail were destined to fail regardless of the temperature.

Well I doubt it was due to being 80c, it would be some other fault causing it. 80c is fine for a 980 SLI, my mate has SLI 980s (reference cooler) and they only reach 79c, so your cooler should be doing better. Have you set your own fan profile? But really for SLI 80c isn't bad or especially high:)

    http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5560#ov

for about 2 weeks now in my local store (cheapest model off all 980ti's), i did not find any reviews on her(or any kind of info exept standard gigabyte info) so cant wait for Hibi to make one, realy wanna see difference compared to her big brother G1 !

will probably be cheapest 980Ti and also lowest ASIC out there. sorry for edit, i didn't notice this is the non OC version.

That doesn't sound right. Maybe your cards don't have enough air flow or are faulty

I'm not sure about the standard Gigabyte 980 but i know the G1 i have has a windforce III up to 600w of cooling power and has never been over 65C while reaching 1400Mhz Default clock.

So which HS is this one, the 600w or higher like from the G1 980?

It doesn't say it on the Gigabyte website but i think this is a 980 G1 600w windforce III HS and is different from the 980Ti G1 which is claiming to be 650-700w of cooling power.

From my experience, open-air coolers, even good ones like Gigabyte's, can struggle to keep temps down when put in SLI. I used to have a pair of GTX 470's with the Windforce cooler. While they did great individually and overclocked like champs, the top card always got into the 80's when they were in SLI (despite having two slots between them).

If I were going to go SLI again with hot graphics cards, I would probably go for the blower design.

Guessing you have never had the "pleasure" of using a GTX480. That GPU would fry you eggs in the mornings and work as a heater in the winter. My normal operating temp was around 93 degrees and it's still going strong after all these years as a physx card now. 80 is no big deal, however you will notice throttling at those temps but still very safe.
