F1, it can only be updated with VBIOS versions F2-F9.
F10, it can only be updated with VBIOS versions F11-F19.
F20, it can only be updated with VBIOS versions F21-F29.

F40, it can only be updated with VBIOS versions F41-49. This is on that same page.

I'm not sure what that 51 is but might be later rev 1.1 boards got an updated bios to turn off fans in idle. I read somewhere Gigabyte was now doing this with their cards along with some other manufactures.

Have you tried Gigabyte Guru software as that does find both new and beta Bios from Gigabyte that is 100% for the card you have.

So anyway i'm guessing you can't update from a 40+ bios to a 50+ because they must alter the card physically over time. I think it is to do with a slightly improved Windforce 3 fans control through Pulse-width modulation allowing the card to stop the fans altogether while under 40C or something.

Although this may be totally wrong but i do obviously own the card and have done a lot of reading about it.

Allowing the fans to go off would probably mean less RMA's and double the fan life.
