I'm the same, when buying a gpu price is the last thing on my mind, performance and performance alone.

Let AMD have their day with the 290x. In a few months, Nvidia will have thier top dog out and AMD will tkae a back seat to it. It's a never ending rinse and repeat cycle with these 2.

no not yet, the vanilla 290x is crap until you spend more on a cooler, shame on amd for skimping on cooling, but sure 290x lightning and the rest will be a sight to behold.

AMD is going to be lowering there prices on the "refernece" cards right before black friday.. $500 for the 290x and $400 for the 290.. Right around that same time the custom models will come out in the 550/450 price ranges... Lets see how Nvidia likes this. Just a bit of news i herd... they want to cripple Nvidia.. Even the new Ti will be hardly able to hang with a custom 290x.. Nvidia is up **** creek untill they release there 20nm products. Once mantal performance numbers come out and a whole slew of new drivers come out to up performance in games and benches. well........ Plus the fact that these cards can and will OC just as well as the 7xxx cards did. .Infact some are speculating they will do even better once a new stepping of the cards is in place.. What a kickazz fun time ahead we have..

Wont happen, It will have to take Maxwell to pull the blankets off AMD. Plus the prices as they come down lower are going to make nvidias panties all nice and wet.

AMD will probably be the first to release a 20nm product as well, observing their recent track record. A mere guess is that they'll announce their 20nm lineup by the end of Q2 next year, with Maxwell coming in early Q4 2014 (simply maintaining the three months lead ATi/AMD had with previous generations). Give or take a quarter lol...

The thing is, a price war is worse for AMD than Nvidia, who are just cutting prices of older cards.
AMD really haven't had any time to make large profits from these cards.

    I also don't see a 780ti losing to the 290x, stock v stock or OC v OC.

It's in the same price range with 290x in the country i live in, so i doubt that it will take out.
But it won't sell very good, 'cause price jump between 780 and ti is too great.

Yup, rinse repeat, as if Nvidias top dog leaves AMD on the backseat, it then may get put on the backseat itself, by the (rumoured) R10 Zeus. :p

If it's a never ending rinse in repeat cycle what was the 7970? I realize we got a GK104 response because it competed with Tahiti but at the time when it launched wasn't the 7970 a good 30% ahead of the GTX 580? That's not too bad though I hope they have something for maxwell or I fear we'll be experiencing Titan all over again.

Nope. We all had our fun with it at release, beating a card thats over a year old by 8% on average.
