According to dr_ruseless, those benches you posted either don't exist, or are cleverly setup to show gains for only that one particular title. The idea of their new driver branches were written to overcome shortcomings in their previous drivers is totally unrealistic and can never happen, because hardware cannot be held back by unoptimized code. </sarcasm>

Since you can't even read my nickname what use are you when talking about numbers? Don't bother replying, you won't be able to tell anything interesting.

I had occasional/rare hitching with the latest NVidia driver in BF1, so I went back to 390.77, and there hasn't been any hitching since in about 2 hrs of play, but needs more testing to conclude.

EDIT: done further testing in BF1 on the previous driver (390.77) - only 1 hitch in about 4 hrs of play all in all. 391.01 driver gave me less than 10 hitches in about the same 4 hours of play. I'd say 390.77 is a better driver for BF1.

Actually I've had some hitching in a few games too with this driver (KCD, Division, Build engine games) but not sure if it's the driver, given the games.

Might try returning to 390.77 or 388.84 to compare. Initial experience was KCD seemed smoother but could have been due to other variables. Got some irregular stutters later.

This COD Blackops3 high cpu usage bug was too much, so I tested further and found out its something with downsampling resolution.

I tried 391.05, 390.77 and now atm at 388.84 and all have this 90-100% usage all the time.. 388.84 somewhat less, but still very noticeable.
Its ok if I limit fps to lets say 75fps, but if I uncap or use display 144HZ fps it starts to go crazy, even at 90fps, 80 is somewhat ok'ish..

If I use driver DSR it does it, if I use ingame downsampling e.g. 150% which equals ~2880x1620 DSR its even more pronounced.
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

BUT If I use native 1080p and no downsamping it runs at 30-60% per thread and with a lot higher 140fps

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

So by DSR it should be even lower cpu usage, not the opposite..?

I'll try desktop 1620p and run the game as "native" to see what's up, its the last thing..

    EDIT:
No still doing it, a bit less maybe..
Also I noticed it happens only when gpu reaches max 100% usage, e.g. 80fps cap keeps it at 60-90% and its ok, 90-120fps is already max and then I start to see high cpu usage.. weird..

I can definitely say without a shadow of a doubt the best nVidia driver as it stand is 390.77 while the 391 branch is complete garbage. I don't know what they are in the middle of changing but whatever it is the branch is a complete mess. I would stay on 390.77 until we get some consistently good reports of a newer 391 driver.

I have had the card about a week and a bit and tried 3 drivers, 388.84 vulkan drivers and 390.77 and 391.01 .. out of the three 390.77 is definitely the smoothest and best of those 3

have not tried the 391.05 as i guess it will just be the same as 391.01

Last night I was testing the 390.77 and 391.05 with Gears of War 4 and with both the stuttering in the matches was intolerable.
I don't know what they did in the 390/391 but they definitely run very badly.

I'm still on with the 388.84, which is fabulous.

My bad, i used the wrong terminology. I just mean major driver number or something. What word to use to refer to the change of the main three numbers but not the underlying branch?

I guess I could just say 391.xx series sucks as it stands compared to 390.77 for now.

Version number just iterates over builds I assume, so when they run out of branch numbers they just use the next one - but it's still the same branch.

I haven't tried these drivers yet. Has anyone noticed any benefit of using these for final fantasy over previous drivers? Honestly I'm getting pretty crappy performance with the 4k textures enabled. Sometimes it's fine then suddenly drops even with the settings lowered significantly.
I liked 388.84 too but they unfortunately don't cut it anymore with newer games like final fantasy.

You should try 390.85. It performs almost the same only slightly better. You'll need to extract it and add in the modded inf found on here and disable driver signing. I used them for a bit and from what I could tell they were just as stable as the 390.77 only a little faster on final fantasy but shared most of the bugs (such as COD WWII texture flickering). If you're okay with 390.77, might be worth giving those a try.
If you're liking 388.84, give the new 389.10 vulkan betas a try. More up to date and perform about the same or better.

I haven't tried these drivers but I tried 391.05 and they are by far the best for final fantasy. No issues whatsoever with video playback too using potplayer with madvr and lav. Instead of complaining about drivers, how about people stop using crappy media players? Just wish I didn't hold off so long on these drivers based off of other peoples complaints. They're pretty solid.

Since I installed this driver yesterday,
when I'm on Firefox I'm getting sudden freeze (nothing is moving even the mouse)
then black screen for less than 1sec, then everything is okay.

    Firefox 58.0.2 64Bit
    Windows 10 64bit version 1709 latest update

System has been solid as a rock for the past forever. Soon as I put these on I've had two CTD's in FFXV and a general blue screen.

Can't know for sure it's the drivers as my rig is OC'd but no issues for a long time till suddenly with these drivers on.

I've went all the way back to 378.92 on a 1080 Ti and found them to be the smoothest more so with CSGO on the new De Dust 2 map. New drivers were causing huge fps drops as much as 100fps. It was a stutter fest. Even Quake Champions is nice and smooth with these old drivers.

    So what is NVIDIA doing?

Try the 390.85 quadro drivers found on this forum https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/nvidia-390-85-quadro-driver.419478/

They are as good as the 390.77 if not a little better
