I am using max performance and in my MSI laptop it is not helping at all.
Im getting heavy stutters in assasins creed origins with those drivers, happened with .71 too, 388.59, are working fine, rolling back until finish the game.
Speaking of firefox,
I got now 2x bsod freeze if I opened few flash video windows at the same time.. Older drivers prior 390.xx never had that.
Back to 388.71 and tested same scenario again, multiple flash videos in 6-7tabs and all ok.
No issues with Firefox here. What kind of error are you getting in the Event viewer log? I had some crashes with Microsoft Edge a few weeks ago that I thought was driver related, but I figured out that it was actually my sound card's drivers that were causing it by looking at the Event log error.
If you don't use the NVidia sound card, I wouldn't even install the audio drivers at all. I just install the graphics drivers and PhysX and that's it.
As far as i know Windows installs basic drivers for it.
I have disabled high definition audio device in device manager as well, because sometimes Windows 10 sets it as default in combination with my Soundblaster ZxR.
One of the first things I do on a fresh Windows 10 install is turn off driver installation via Windows updates. It causes nothing but headaches!
it does install its own drivers for even IF you dont install the Nvidia one.
a problem in 390.65
when I running Virtual Machine (Android)
and I watching Youtube on Chrome
The Virtual Machine will be crash as soon.
I try to run virtual machine and only run chrome just any website will be crash
Windows 10 1709
If I'm to assume this is correct, then why did it start with the 384's? Some sort of incompatibility?
Firefox and GTA have been updated aplenty since then, but Phase Shift hasn't had an update in 3 years. I find it odd that it would start so suddenly without any changes being made. (I made sure to check the logs when it started, no errors before then)
As I noted earlier, I've tried stock clocks without any change in behavior, and it's only these few specific applications.
As you said, it's probably a software issue.
EventID 4101, "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.".
I've updated all drivers possible, and even changed my sound card to a USB DAC.
Thanks for trying to help, guys.
Edit: I should add that when the driver crash occurs, game audio keeps playing, but no input (such as pausing the game) is being accepted - though seemingly queued - until it has recovered.
Ended up rolling back to 388 version. Back to smooth gameplay.
Filter or no filter, was getting micro stuttering, worse with filters, especially HDR toner.
This is similar to when 384.7x or 384.9x i think came out, and had really bad microstuttering, which got fixed with later versions
Sometimes after a reboot my screen is in a low resolution like 640x480 and all other resolution missing in nvcp. After a reboot i getting all the resolutions back.
People may say it triggers a ban but it seems to be scaremongering. In all the online games ive played (dota, cs, lol, pubg, bf3/4/1) etc and I've played many with it over the years there has never been an issue.
Not really a driver feedback but since there are reports of BSODs and reboots:
Intel Acknowledges Higher Reboots Affecting "Haswell" and "Broadwell"
So maybe it's just bad timing with Intel's crappy security patch and this driver which is addressing same issue. Just FYI
Try disabling everything that is not SounBlaster (or you soundcard/chip) in Device Manager / Sound.
But that would only affect users who updated bios firmware and AFAIK only Z370 have been released by few makers.
Vulkan API version has been updated to 1.0.65.
See if there are updates for VM your using, Chrome too.
I tried VMware 12 with Chrome and vids are fine, I know VMware has update.
Best Nvidia drivers yet. I've seen almost a 10fps or higher increase in 87% of the games I have installed.
Stable and flawless so far. Great job Nvidia!
I have already mentioned it in post #93
