Geforce 8900 GTX has 25 per cent more shaders

Everything is under the curtain. Yeah, curtain

NVIDIA managed to hide some stuff in front of our eyes, under a veil, curtain or purda.
If Geforce 8900 turns out to be using the G80 chip, that will mean that the chip had more Shaders all along. Our sources confirm that Geforce 8900 GTX has more shaders.

We know that this will speed up some of the games and definitely in the "scientific" GPGPU calculations. We heard that the card still has the same G80, 90 nanometre core but Nvidia might be veiling some info. We know you cannot clock the G80 more than 630MHz unless you "goto" water cooling. With that you are still topped at 680+MHz.

We heard that the card will be announced just in time to spoil the ATI's fun with R600 launch. Quel surprise, n'est ce pas? µ

Kind of a "Eff you, I will show you up" sorta thing.

I like their tactics, but I worry that the R600 will out perform.

    Regarding 8800 GTS clocks

    Jelle Mees posted :

I hope you know that the memory is able to go as high as 2000Mhz with better cooling.

Mine is clocked at 2100 with stock cooling.:heh:

    Mine is at 661 :heh:

Everything is stable, I've run ATI tool for 2 hour's (temps topped out at 82c), then benchmarked, then played BF2 for 3 hour's and encountered no problems. '06 score's are higher than they should be due to the 1280x768 resolution of the 30" lcd tv that I use as a monitor.
    Stockclock score = 9102
    overclock score = 10283

Are you 100% honest? 660/2100Mhz with stock cooling? Is there anyone else who was able to go that high?

I bought the BFG 8800GTS OC ( Core 600Mhz, Shaders: 1300Mhz ). Do you think I can get 650Mhz on the core and 2000Mhz on memory with stock cooling?

I think my card temperature will be much higher because BFG overclocked the Shader speed and not the memory like other brands.

I didn't know that it was possible to overclock the shader speed. All I have seen so far were overclocked core/memory cards, but never overclocked shader cards.

This is the card I should have today/tomorrow:

I wonder if the surprise is stable drivers upon the release of the card? Gasp! Could it be true?

Off note: Ati will be the interesting one to watch since they have alot of good features on the r600. Let the wars begin!

completely fake i assume. i highly highly doubt that nvidia would even waste their money on a 8950gx2, their 8600U will make them alot of money though.

Judging by this chart, even the 8300 series of cards (a number that nVidia usually uses for its cheapest lines) is going to kick some serious ass, more so than the 7 series. And for only ~$100 too

Hmm, this seems like it could be legit but I don't know. All I know is that the wait for the 8600 series is killing me because I've got the urge to buy a new card right now. Whats gonna sell me is how well the 8600GT or Ultra performs against the 7950GT and X1950 Pro.

I too am in the market for a new card.

I mainly play bf2/2142 at 1920x1200 and i have to keep all my settings at low to keep from lagging out when there is alot of action going on...

Does anyone have an educated guess on the avaliblity of the 2nd gen cards?

100% honest, I was surprised by it as well, I tried 670/2100 but that locked up 3d mark. I don't leave it clocked like that on a permanent basis, was just seeing how far it would go.

Just for the record here, this seems fake because all the lower end cards have 25, or it's atleast mostly ballparked.

I mean, look at the low-end cards of today. They're 2ps/1vs cores, or 4ps/2vs, or whatever other variation.

Either 25 stream shaders is going to give you the performance equivalent to the low end of today, or else I can smell a company that's going to go belly up from the majority of people buying the cheapest cards...

Then again, there're enough enthusiasts out there, I suppose. But still, 32 stream shaders.... I dunno.

You and me both man, i've chomping at the bit to get my hands on the 8600 Ultra...or at the very least see how it actually stacks up to the current generation mid-range cards...

Aah, it's the maximum, but if you want to know if it's stable, you have to run game tests like 4 hours non-stop. I really doubt that the card is stable when you go higher then 640/1950.

Then again, who keeps his card longer then 7 months these days :)

if this is true then nvidia should have a problem...a big problem...come on man 384bit on the 8900series!!!???...that means that the only thing changed on the card is the bios and the core and mem speed...

I really hope that the 8900 is the same card with unlocked shaders.
It's possible that someone will find a way to unlock extra shaders on the 8800 cards, who knows...

Nvidia is smart. THese cards perform very well all games that are our there.
And if the the new ATI series are better, all Nvidia has to do is lower the prices.

Nvidia is gaining on ATI by releasing next-gen cards before ATI. Like I sad, all they have to do is lower the prices if the ATI cards are better then the Nvidia cards.
