    Hi,

Take a look at the release notes from ForceWare 158.19 for Windows XP.
There's information about GeForce 8800 GS to be released.

Yeah, if it costs like less than a 8800GTS 320mb, and more than a 8600GTS

which will be about +/- $20 each way.

Cuz you get get a 8600GTS for $40 less than a 8800GTS 320mb. and i Doubt the 8800GS will be better than the 8800GTS 320mb.

Unless Nvidia Drops the Prices like MAD on the 8600GTS to like $150

Just renamed version? NVIDIA does not usually do so (I do not remember that they have ever done so). It might be 320MB 320bit + 64 stream processors or 512MB/256MB 256bit + 64 stream processor card.

    I'm placing my bets on 256mb :)

We all knew that nvidia would release something to fill the void between the 8800gts 320 and the 8600gts, maybe there'll be an 8700 too :p

im going to guess that the specs will be something like 48/64 stream processors 256mb of DDR3 ram @ 1.4ghz with a 256bit memory bus. and the core and something like 450/500 mhz if 64sp's other wise 600/650 mhz if 48sp's. giving it a theorectical memory bandwitdh of 44.8 GB/s and a texture fillrate of around
    15G texels/sec.

you dont have to agree with me its just sort of wot i etimate it to be around could be a bit faster in fill rate terms but i dotn expect memory bandwith to be any faster than 48 GB/s. but one things for sure im definetly buying that as an upgrade. i recon it will be released when ati release there whole line up.

I figured they'd have a card in between the 8600GTS and 8800GTS. That gap between them is pretty big and they don't want ATI to control that segment.

That is a valid concern for nvidia. If there are too many models the non-gurus out there will probably have no idea as to which is best or how to even compare the nomenclature.

Still, it's good to see something else for the mid-range market to fill in the crucial 'top mid-range' card slot. I'd say this is the 7900 GT/GTX performer ideally, although a little better than that would render no complaints either depending on the price.

Too many models have been the problem ever since the FX series. Nowadays the problem is getting worse with the advent of the "in-between" model #s. 7950GT, X1950Pro, etc. Even Intel's gotten itself caught-up in the naming frenzy.

dont think 8800gs can beat a 8800gts 320mb. but i think it would be great for budget cards.

What are Nvidia playing at, why so many diffrent cards? take me back to the Ti4000's series you had the 42-44-46, you knew where you were, but this is getting pathetic.

Anyway rant over and ill be joining ATI pretty soon so fairwell suckers ;)

    He'll be back,....they always come back,.... :)

LOL, just kidding,...I buy both ATI and nVidia cards.

Anyway, I think an 8800GS makes good sense especially if the performance fills in the performance gap between the 8600GTS and 8800GTS 320MB nicely. If nVidia actually ships this product and does so before ATI it would really call into question the supposed notion that ATI held back the R600 release in favor of a full DX10 lineup release.

I’m not bashing ATI I’m just saying.

I don't understand why people are upset with so many cards. I'd rather have many options to choose from than not.

    Same here,….

Its typically the people who get confused and don’t understand the options offered or perhaps don’t want to educate themselves about the individual cards attributes that seem to have the issue.

The '42-44-46' sounds like an all-or-nothing pricing strategy which I certainly hate.
Imagine you are only offered 8800 GTX (which is so dear), 8600 GT and 8500 GT, (which cause major dismay). The picture is troubling!
