hi,i don't understand why the nvidia control panel show 76C.
i know that is not real because when i touch the heatsink the card is very cool.
do you think that the sensor of my card is damaged?
i have tried with diferent drivers but not any changes.

i am using this driver Xtreme G 76.10

Search for driver temp bug. Its a bug with the nvidia drivers that reports the temps too high.

and when i play it show 120C and this messege:
In order to avoid that the hardware is warmed up excessively and causes a blockade potential, the GPU has reduced their perfomance to a level for safe operations of continued way. It can that notices a change in the perfomace of some applications.

dude: if heatsink = cool, and gpu reports hot, it's mostly a case of:

    heatsink making improper gpu-die contact.

as in there is probably a little gap , or lack of thermal paste between the gpu and the heatsink contact area.

to confirm: use a bench proggie like 3dmark or rthdrbl for using the card up to 100% for a few minutes and feel if there's any temp difference between the back of the pcb @ th gpu location of the graphics card & the heatsink on the other side.

probably a third party cooler like zalman's vf700-cu/alcu
or the nv6 will cure these problems for sure if you're a little handy with modding ;)

76degC isnt that hot is it?

try roll back to previous drivers and see if its the drivers' heat 'bug' or not

If temp is the same in different drivers, then maybe like the guys mentioned above, check whether the cpu is conducting heat to heatsink via paste, maybe take out hs and re-apply paste, check clipping and try again?

Simple, there isn't good contact with the HSF and GPU die, simply take ur card out and take the fan screws off, then screw the HSF which contacts with the GPU tighter, as it can go, then put everything back, nothing to worry about

i also think there is no contact weetwin the gpu and heatsink.i will chek it.
at the moment i am using coolermaster CoolViva(VHC-L61).
do you think is it a good cooler??
if it there any better please recomend me.
    thanks for all your help.

we have the same card...try the zalman...look the links in my signature I have the zalman and idle temp is 45°C, max load is 60 and the card is o/c to 600/1000

for sure it is not a driver bug as only 6800 cards are affected by this driver bug

    76C is high,

I'm running zalman also, 39C idle, 45C under load (while running 3dMark2003, with monitors enabled in RivaTuner), what a heatsing.
Don't forget to scrub down the thermal paste with the heatsink before tightening the bolts, it should be a gap filler only, not an actual layer/interface.

Also drop driver back to a full WHQL from the microsoft web site.... and see if the bug in temp reporting is still there
