This news makes me very excited for upcoming future release cards from AMD. I can only see the push for Ray Tracing gaining more and more traction.

From what i have seen in game, RT look too shiny, of course it is cute on picture but it look so fake on real life session (and i don't talk about expensive hardware that run painfully to get this result).
RT isn't for actual GPU, it's for next generation.

Do you normally get those types of options on consoles ?
When I worked on consoles the graphics were fixed and tuned for the console, no user options available.

If you have seen it in action in games like Metro and Control, it's a hell of a lot more than that.

Anyone that uses 'super' as a superlative adjective is not worth paying much attention to.

    Sorry.

This is the only way i will ever able to play any RT games because there is no way i would ever spend £500/£800 plus quid on a single PC component.

Why not...... Nothing wrong with that....that is if you're getting what you've paid for then what's the problem.

I mean yeah it's money, but that shtuff comes and goes like the weather......

thats a good point, spending good money on a single pc component isnt the problem, at least on my side i dont mind, i have a ryzen 3900x and a 1080ti, reason i did not get a 2080ti is a feel its not worth it for the money it cost from a consumer standpoint, as soon as there will be more games using it and that the performance is good i wont mind spending a 1000 $ maybe more on a single graphic card

Dedicated in the same was as Nvidia's, or dedicated as in "X amount of cores will be reserved for RT when RT is in use"? Because if they're taking the Nvidia route, I'm not so sure I'm a fan of that. But, perhaps there isn't another option.

I think Ray tracing will benefit walking sim games or games that are slower pace. I just don't see a point with fast pace shooting games for now.

Ray tracing will be mainstream someday. It's really cool visual tech. All the opinions of it being too expensive and having limited app availability are totally valid right now. Just have to wait for it to mature. I remember when DVD players were like 500 bucks plus during initial launch. I eventually bought one when they were more affordable and when I could get the VHS titles I wanted on DVD. Same thing will happen here for PC when mid-range cards can run RT well. Consoles jumping on the ray tracing ship is a huge boon. Remember when buying a Playstation was a good way to also get a DVD player when you bought a console for gaming? Not exactly apples to apples, but you get my point. Wait for it...

Seeing how I like to stick to components for several years, I'm starting to think 5700 isn't such a good option. If the next gen consoles come out in a year with an RT adaptation, it means RT will suddenly become commonplace. Maybe it would still not be plausible in the heaviest of games, but otherwise it ought to appear here and there even more than it already has. Even now it actually surprises me how much Nvidia has managed to spread it around despite the lackluster beginning and the common conception that 2060 isn't enough, yet better cards are overprised.

All in all, I'm now more interested in seeing AMD's next offerings.

I've been really looking forward to RT hardware becoming more common. We've all known the visuals of games will never be truly impressive without RT. Sure it sucks the big one right now, especially since the high end is a monopoly so there is zero pressure for better products, but just the fact that it's been commercially available is huge. It finally sparked the true start.

The next-gen consoles are slated for end of 2020.

Given the usual time frame of adoption and optimizations of newer game titles I'd expect realtime raytracing to feature more strongly a few years after that, so ~2023 onwards perhaps. Then again I expect the next-gen consoles to be notably more expensive which might make adoption rates slower than previous.

In the end I don't expect realtime raytracing to be mandatory until well beyond the lifespan of any current-gen GPU and any raytracing effects will likely be designed for late 2020 hardware (ie. the next-gen consoles) for the foreseeable future. The end result being that I'd be surprised if a 5700 didn't last quite a long while.

Obviously this is all speculation on my part. :)

Of course, as with any other computer hardware, if you're not hurting for performance right now then waiting for the next gen (or price drops on the current gen) is usually going to be a better deal.

Considering implementing DX RT isn't that expensive vs faking with rasterization, I actually think there's going to be wide-spread adoption in games within the next year and beyond. I expect Fifa 21 to fully support it. I'd be surprised if the next Need for Speed doesn't support it as well.
