What is the difference betweeen Gcn 1.1 and 1.2 with regards to DX12. I can either get a r9 380 or the R9 290. Ionly play @1080P. Both are second hand with some warranty left.. the 290 is going to cost more by about (R600) +/- $50
Opted for the R9 290. now to decide if i keep my i5-4690k or swap it for a i7 4790. Keeping the motherboard. MSI H97 Gaming 3.
No need, 4690k will do just fine. If you feel you'll need CPU power, overclock it. When we see 6-8 core mainstream CPU's then upgrade.
Sadly the H97 does not OC. The i7 was going to be a straight swap. Not changing motherboard at present as the extra finds went into the MSI R9 290 Gaming card.
You can't on H97. You can however set the turbo boost as the default frequency (say, 40x), and set the FSB to say, 102. That would give you very roughly the equivalent of 4100 MHz. Since you have H97, you can get a non-K CPU as the K CPU has no benefit (except maybe a few dollars in resale value).
Some h97 mobos overclock. Check for reviews or for product specs and see if it allows it. As for the i7 4790k, if you can get it do so. It comes clocked at 4 ghz already and boosts to 4.2-4.4 depending on how many cores used, along side HT.
Nope the locked version doesn't boost like the k version. It comes clocked at 3600mhz and boosts to only 4.0ghz.
