It's gone up .07 pence a litre here in the UK since January.
You could blame everyone, they who buy it, make cars & taxes it really.
Though really there is a lot more consumption by emerging economies
& that is what is driving the cost up really. Think China and you'll get the
    picture.

I take it you don't like the Iranians. I'm not sure how much of the oil your
country buys comes from them but I bet you get more oil from other sources.
Sources such as Iraq which have a serious cost overhead due a need to protect
the fields from an angry bunch of natives with an agenda against us all.

    Which pump it was?

Price is determined by the company, not the seller. You should know that by now.

It could be that at 9 the most amount of people fill up and they price it accordingly.

So? It went up 5p in one day here - per litre that is. So call that 10c a littre or 50c a gallon.

I think you mean 0.7 pounds, not pence. And its more like 12p not 7p.

yeah he should consider himself lucky. Its at 4 where i live now too. :(

edit: and beleive it or not it has nearly nothing to do with the iraq war
most of our gas comes from saudi arabia which is pretty dependable and one of our allies in the middle eastern theater
it has more to do with the increased demand during the summer (trips...) and inflation of certain commodities year to year

Price is controlled by many factors, not just the company. You should know that by now since you work for the Oil & Gas industry.

The cost of crude, refining costs, distribution, marketing, taxes and station markup...

Service stations add on a few cents per gallon. There's no set standard for how much gas stations add on to the price. Some may add just a couple of cents, while others may add as much as a dime or more.

Gas prices also vary from state to state for several reasons. Taxes are probably the biggest factor in the different prices around the country. Additionally, competition among local gas stations can drive prices down. Distance from the oil refineries can also affect prices -- stations closer to the Gulf of Mexico, where many oil refineries are located, have lower gas prices due to lower transportation costs. There are also some regional factors that can affect prices.

I always find that a bizarre statement when I hear it in the News, they say because of the American summer demand is higher because of vacations etc, then come winter they say demand is higher because of heating etc. Which is it then? they can't make up their frickin minds.

Getting expensive here in NZ, considering average wages are a lot less than the US and UK, we are paying nearly $2.00NZ a litre, in the South Island it has reached more than $2 for 91.

What is dumb is that NZ has some of the purest oils in the world, but our refinery can't refine it cos its so clean, so we have to ship it overseas and import crap in to refine and sell on the local market then get charged for the (lack of) privilege. The only advantage is that the companies make more money shipping our A grade oil overseas then they do in buying in the Pooh grade oil. Shame we can't tell OPEC to naff off and be self sufficient off our own oil, meh, government would still screw us though, so probably still wouldn't be any cheaper.

It is frustrating though with oil going up so much yet Chevron et al are still making their $10B profits, thats just wrong.

I've seen it jump at one station going out of town 10cents one day and the next day be back down 10cents. Its all greed drivin by the source and thats the oil companies! Gas shouldn't be no higher than 2$/gallon in the US right now based on how its been rising in the last 20years.

Exactly. Even down here in Australia and New Zealand, way too many people use these big gas-guzzlers for no apparent reason.

Erm... yep. Didnt it just end with a small padlock and the word closed?

Keep on topic and have a nice debate.

Prices here in the UK are nuts for petrol and diesel. £1.10 a litre is about right for normal petrol. So thats over £4 / $8 per US gallon. Makes travel somewhat more expensive.

They are talking about it (crude oil) possibly rising to $200 a barrel. At $150 a barrel they are suspecting gas prices to be around $6 a gallon. Think it's bad now? Just wait to see what it will be by the end of summer if the trend continues.

In Aus where I'm at our price works out to about US $5.40 a gallon. Everyone, no matter the country, is hurting.

It's getting a bit daft here in the stiks. I mean I need a job & because
I live in a rural area I need a car to travel to anyware in time due to busses
not necassarily being on time or near the emplyment venue. But looking at the
costs. I'm begining to think that it's going to be impossible for me to have a
car when I start work. I have no assets to support myself whilst I wait for
my first paycheck. Catch 22, chicken before the egg & all that.

Sorry if this goes a bit off-topic
It's a shame that Gov. ministers are afraid of taxing the rich more, because
they'd get no invites to parties if they did. They let some people get away
with stuff because they have money. Here's an example that happend localy
some local buisiness man sold his buisiness (Pubs & IT linked tills) for I think
over 22mill. He owed tax and buggered off abroad. He is allowed to comeback
into the country drive his Aston Martin around town for say a month and is
not fingered by the police for tax avoidance. Where as Jo Bloggs down the
road might owe £500 and he ends up in court or even jail. If the Gov. were
really serious then they'd get these skimming scamming tax abusers. Then
we might not have to end up paying so much tax on fuel.
