hahaha, ok. just make sure your laptop has support for the new CPU ill be saving for mah M17 w/ 3870 crossfire!!!!!
yep this cpu works great and laptop is officially maxed out with all the upgrades that are user accessible. i can get a bigger harddrive but i dont think i need more than 160 gigs on my laptop to haul around pictures and dvd rips to my friends and other places. also youtube now plays flash videos full screen smooth as a babys butt and google earth is smoother too. before: cpu 1.6 ghz pentium m after: cpu 2.26 ghz pentium m before 512 mb ddr 533 after 2 gigs ddr 533 before 80 gig hd after 160 gig hd hahaha now i can sell the laptop for 1 eight of what i paid for it n 2005 ($1250) LOL. nah im not selling it. its great now! and the damn screen is bright like it was when i got it new! i know there are dual cores and the alienware quads out there but i dont need to spend 2 grand for a gaming laptop and this one is great now. all i do on it is manage my website and do photo uploads from my photgraphy projects. man im as happy as pig in mud.
ahh.... my 3dmark 06 score came in.... yeah... it actually ran. that leaves my desktop at 80x the performance of my laptop. uhh... yeah i think ill just give this one up. EDIT: hmm, i just realized my ram is not running in dual channel, since i have 1x 1024mb, and 1x 512mb. i guess it would improove speed to run in dual channel mode? EDIT: i just install another 1GB dimm to put it in dual channel, and damn! noticeable performance increase! windows aero performance score went from 2.6 to 3.0.(does not mean much, but still!) i have yet to benchmark it, but wow this has to get better performance!
haha oh crap im stupid.... i just overclocked my laptop sucessfully to 1.99Ghz :nerd: c: all im saying is, i should be able to run counter strike if i can run WoW.... but w/e my laptops running much better w/ dual channel ram and OC. haha. EDIT: CPU-z validation... this is real, not faking this! http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=445599 i could probably get it to 2.2-2.4Ghz but i dont want to push this laptop since i cannot replace it. using CPUcool unregistered.
u lucky u can oc yours. i cant oc my t o S H I T b a at all. no bios options or anything for ram speed or fsb or anything.
you are talking about dynamic speed control which is there to allow for longer battery life and lower heat. mine does this too from 2.26ghz down to 800 mhz, what i want to do is make my chip actually run beyond 2.26 ghz
well, im using the CPUcool application, this is not a BIOS option... but anyways got it to 2100Mhz, brought up the 3dmark 06 score up 36 points! ahh i gotta get one of those asus... love the overclocking option!
lol....well, performance issues with WoW are known. Blizzard states there are "issues" running WoW on GMA950. As for the Celeron...Yonah core celerons (Celeron-M 4xx) are pretty well garbage for anything but web browsing, word processing and e-mail. Conroe-L Celerons are a good bit better (Celeron-M 5xx) but still not good at gaming. And WTF would think that a Celeron would be better than an Athlon64? A low-budget processor being faster than a Mid-Range -> High-end processor.....geezus. You'd have to be an idiot to think that. GMA950 also doesn't have shader processors...it has pixel pipelines. GMA950 is DX9....not DX10. GMA3100 is DX10..but won't run DX10 apps.
the reason my celeron outperforms my athlon 64, the athlon 64 is an OLD core that retails at $20 for the 2Ghz model i had. and the celeron M has twice the L2 cache, 65nm instead of 90nm, and newer intel tech. im aware the GMA 950 is not verry powerful, but im RUNNING WORLD OF WARCRAFT FINE. i think it just cant run fast pased FPS games. thanks for the input, but i think im good now. i cant really do anything els to improve performance.
according to this chart which does look legit his celeron is right above a mobile athlon 64 but not all athlon 64 chips. and in general an athlon 64 is a old chip already so the celeron is faster than some athlon 64s. but i do agree with you celerons are not for games. they were originally designed for cost effectiveness. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Celeron+M+440+@+1.86GHz
Well, my CPU is a T9300 (45nm) @ 2.5ghz and to have it overclock to 2.9 (on a lappy), all by itself, is quite cool IMO.
yep, gets unstable past 2200Mhz, but it runs well. strictly with CPUcool app, no BIOS options for it. but anyways, im just saving for a new Core i7 notebook probably... whatever the future holds for budget gaming laptops. thanks for help. BTW randyb, is that 9500m good enough to play games like WoW, cod4, ect on medium settings? possibly high settings with no AA? im thinking of something like a 9800m GS(64sp's, 530c/1250s/800m) or mobility 4850(800sp's, 550c/750m) when i get the money, would these be good enough for gaming at 1440x900 or 1680x1050? thanks.
GMA950 can play Half Life 2 fine but not CS:Source, it just runs like crap. People are too quick to make up crap like the guy who said it could barely manage AOEII. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=139768 That's my thread I made to address such remarks. True - a lot of games are totally unplayable. Doom 3, FEAR, and a few others run like dirt even though Intel claims they run OK. But on the other side, I did get Soldier of Fortune 2, Call of Duty, GTA3, Far Cry (the blue textures was actually due to needing a patch, not the GMA drivers), Dawn of War and Half Life 2 running at playable FPS levels (never going below 25) Bit better then Age of Empires 2, no?
thanks! i didnt get why CS:S didnt work. i mean, my old laptop: 1.2Ghz pentium 3 512MB PC133 ATI mobility radeon 16mb 1400x1050 res that ran half life 2 playable(1024x768 i think). so i didnt get why my more powerful GMA 950 didnt run CS:S for ****. ill be testing some stuff. also, i will be installing XP onto a USB drive... 16GB my dad didnt need, so im going to use it for my PC. goin to be pretty sick.
dont get too happy. it will be alot slower than the built in harddrive. i did that hoping to see blazing speed cuz of the extremely fast access time but the transfer rate is what makes speed when loading lots of files.
by the way i got the cpucool app but how did you find out what pll your laptops fsb controller uses? i wanted to try it on mine but have no clue.
yeah... i just ****ed the boot sector in windows, so i cannot boot to vista. and my laptop was a floor model, they forgot the damned vista restore disk... anyways, i bought a 320GB hard drive, and the restore disks are coming in the mail. im just going to restore, then image the drive onto the new one and dual boot with XP pro... i used the same controller that the guy with the aspire used... to find it i think its on the heatsink of the CPU... EDIT: just finished installing everything on XP pro. instaling WoW currently. EDIT: WoW runs about 10FPS more. even half life 2 at 1024x768 is playable! also, i successfully overclocked using the setFSB application. running well now at 2100Mhz.
