I need help please. Can anybody tell me how to make my Gainward GeForce 6800 GT 256 MB Golden Sample, to 6800 Ultra? Please help. P.S. i know i have to change my GPU BIOS, but tell me please how to do it.
The GPU's are better bins on the Ultra's and the memory is 1.6ns vs. 2.0 on the GT. The voltage regulation is setup better on the Ultra which allows for more overclocking as well. You can never really make a GT as good as a Ultra but you can OC the GPU to put it near the speeds of a Ultra.
They do insure it will clock to same GPU speeds as a Ultra. They are also better binned GPU's then the regular GT's. However that doesn't change the memory factor or the voltage factor that come into play.
Maybe someone could help me answer this question. How come the people that have Ultra's aren't using GT BIOSes? I mean on the GT BIOSes they have tighter memory timings which is why you get better performance overclocking with it. I mean would that make much more sense. They have better cores and better memory, why not take advantage of the better timings?
You can and some do if it will stay stable. However to give a comparision that would be like saying run the memory timings of low latency PC3200 with PC4400 memory. While the one has higher bandwidth and is faster memory it has to do so at slightly slower timings.
That's true but from my experience the timings don't make almost any difference in actual speeds of the cards, ie I can run my cards @ 1145 on GT or Ultra BIOS but can't go higher on either. Notsure about the other way around though sinceI don't have a real Ultra card. I think a UE card may produce the best results by doing that, assuming it works. I also don't see why it wouldn't work since they U and UE cards have better memory anyways.
The Gainward Ultra has 1.6ns ram, wheras the GT and the goldensample have 2.0. As for the BIOS timings, are you sure that every manufacturer set their timings the same?
I would hardly doubt that they would have them the same, but most if not all of them are tighter timings than the Ultras have. The looser timings on the Ultra provides for higher memory speeds, it should if you don't hit a max that is.
Check this out http://www.pcunleash.com/bbs/zboard...n&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=37 It should be infomative.
