STEAM Forever. In Gabe we trust. I like all the Half Life 3 complaints people only look at what they are not getting. If they get HL3 wrong could be the end of mankind. THe option to return games is the best thing i have ever seen from a company. I hope He can get Steam OS better so i can ditch Windows for good
I liked Gabe and Valve for years, right up until the part where i realized what a filthy, lazy sellout he has become thanks to CS:GO, Dota 2 and their hat casinos.
It's not laziness, it's call automation. AKA: works smarter not harder. Valve does most things right with their games. People who get bored with polished games and expecting something new that they don't even know ARE the problem. CS:GO and Dota2 are very well done and enjoyable in its current state. Cheaters, bad hitboxes are just excuses silvers make to feel better about themselves.
There's no shame in acquiring wealth if you work hard and Valve have proved to be reliable time and time again, fighting the good fight against censorship and broken games.
'Dota 2' and 'enjoyable' are antonyms to me at this point. I got another (cheater) edit: FEEDER last night, I bet you 10 bucks he's getting away even though I've seen 7 confirmed reports against him (copy-paste report message in post-match chat). Mechanically the game is in a great state, I'll give you that. I find it far more interesting and diverse than it was one year ago but the lack of punishment for anything simply detracts from the experience a lot. As for CS:GO; you cannot deny that there have been severe hitbox issues in the past, and it's a bit weird you mention silvers since they're the most affected by the cheating issue although they do tend to be stupid about better players being cheaters too. That doesn't change the fact that lower ranked prime matchmaking has a good amount of cheaters (I won't even mention non-prime matchmaking, it's a cheatfest). Thankfully the higher up you are the more the match quality improves. Valve does everything right except listen to the community. The best recent example is the Dust 2 rework, nobody asked for it. They just went on a crusade to change the maps while completely disregarding the fact that Dust 2 is the map which needed it the least.
I didn't play Dota for a while, but I never met a cheater. I thought some players were cheaters, but they turned out to be just really good players. Some people write scripts to proc mines for techies, etc... but I don't see any major cheat that can actually exploit game. Most people who got called hackers are smurfs or badly matched opponent. There no cheats that I know that can give you major advantage in Dota. For CS:GO, I've been to silver and all I heard was "cheater" in chat. I mean any headshot in a row, pre-firing predictable spots and just having good game sense is cheating. EVERY good play is a cheat there. Same with Dota in a sense. In Dota2 1k MMR player will call 4k MMR a cheater. 4k MMR will call 7K MMR a cheater. In CS:GO silver will call smurf or rank reset player a cheater. Sad thing is, people who keep calling cheaters are stuck in low ranks and just don't get better. Why motivate yourself to get better, while "cheaters" will beat you anyway. Maybe some desperate people will try cheats to get out of lower skill, but I never seen them. Maybe I wasn't in low ranks long enough to meet them. Maybe having prime match in CS:GO saved me from them. Calling out cheaters seem to be like an excuse for getting owned in most cases. It's just became safe state of a mind to make yourself feel better. Anyway, get gut kid
Haha goddamn, I wrote 'cheater' instead of 'feeder' because I was thinking about cheating in CS:GO. My bad man. Yeah, I don't think there's any form of cheating possible in Dota 2 aside from some scripts that don't really blatantly disrupt the game. Feeders however.. Either they're way too many or I've had extremely bad luck. Prime saves you from a lot of cheater pain, when it was implemented I noticed the match quality rose significantly. I was never silver as I started in GN4 and never fell under GN2 but my little brother was silver. Boy the crap he'd send me was hilarious, he used to get reported just because he didn't want to buy autosniper when he had the money. If you dared to ace you'd instantly get 5-man reports. Of course nothing ever happened to you if you were legit. What I noticed is that there were many more cheaters where my brother was playing than where I was playing. I guess if you aren't good you're more likely to not take the game seriously, hence more likely to cheat. The highest I got was supreme in the old ranking before the redistribution (that would be either LE or LEM right now) and you'd still find the occasional cheater. But now in LEM there are literally no cheaters, although I hear silver still has them. Haha I'm trying man, I'm moving back to Quake Champions and am hilariously incompetent at it. My brain seems to not understand the concept of rocket launchers dealing self-damage when I'm in the heat of the fight.
Poor guy, how does he get by on so little, where can i send him a donation to see him through the winter.
There is no matchmaking in Quake yet it seems. I've been matched up with several pro and ex-pro quake players that just completely destroy me. I consider myself good but nowhere on that level. I put about 15 hours into it and while its good, I'm waiting a while until they get some things sorted out. And yes you'll hear people complaining about cheaters in that game too. I assume most of them didn't grow up playing arena shooters though.
Nah, the matchmaking is just random it seems. It doesn't even seem to account for level. I've sinked 27 hours into it since I bought it on Steam a while back but like you, I've been waiting for it to get more polished. I stopped playing when facerockets were failing to register properly. It's a great game, just needs more time. It's in early access after all. I'm confident in it though. It's fun as hell, reminds me of the old days.
By allowing any and all cr*p to be sold on their store front... yeah must take some real balls to allow any wannabe idiot to pay you for the privelage of selling utter crap knowing fine well that the backlash will be aimed squarely at the developer while Valve sit at the side lines doing not a damn thing but also for some reason taking a more than what their service is worth profit from the game. Although it's taken some time at least Steam's customers are now starting to hold Valve as accountable for garbage they allow to be sold on their store front and doing nothing to vet what is sold on their store front is not the same as being against censorship. Censorship is when the fundamental right to say or do what you want is suppressed, however just because YOU choose to use Steam to sell your game does not mean that Valve has to PROVIDE you with the soap box from which to sell whatever cr*p you decide to upload.
Just a question here, what do you mean specifically when talking about "fighting against censorship"?
I don´t get this guy, just with the money they pulled from pubg he could finance several half life games, full fledged no episodes, it´s time to give something back.
I really don't think Valve cares about game development anymore. They have so much else going on. I'm curious what they come up with after the Vive.
Valve still experimenting with new game genres. As if Hearthstone wasn't enough.... https://www.polygon.com/2017/8/8/16116786/valve-artifact-dota-2-card-game However I think it's good practice. People who like Steam and Valve don't walk off easily to Blizzard and play their games. Valve already got their own audience and can create more content for it. So far Valve got: FPS : HL series(Solo), CS:GO (competetive), TF2 (casual), L4D series(co-op), Portal(puzzle), etc... ARPG : Dota2 Cards : Artifact maybe it's matter of time before Valve jumps on Battle Royal band wagon.
good for him, he helped create one of the best games of all time and the Steam marketplace works well.
