"The flagship single-card product GeForce 7900 GTX is claimed to be a 32 pixel processor part with a core GPU frequency of 700/750 MHz, and should ship with 1.1ns graphics RAM clocked at 800/900MHz...

...The validity of this idle gossip was later confirmed after I pumped a humble partner for a little a bit of meat to go with my beans - the money-shot is that a 700MHz NVIDIA GeForce 7900 is currently coming in at circa 13,000 3DM2K5's on an AMD Athlon 64 FX 60 system."

    Woot!

If the G71 is a continuation of the 7 series when do we get to see the 8 series, possible Direct X 10?

    The G71 doesn't support dx10, but the g80 will along with sm4.

I would expect 8-series to come out late this year possibly early 2007.

EDIT: BTW what's up with that Hexus place? That author is a frickin' pervert!

My pc is fast enough for now. I'll just sell this thing next summer and get a new pc with a geforce 8 :p

Oh btw, will microsoft release a DX10 for Windows Xp or are we forced to buy Windows Vista to play DX10 games?

I was hoping for the geforce 8 series to come out mid this year :(
I guess I'll have to buy the 7900GT or GTX sometime in Q3 when I upgrade to socket AM2

knowing microsoft and their tactics (well actually i dont know, im guessing here), they'll probably force us to buy the expensive vista. but then again, the vista sounds good so far, im sure that they'll make it worth ur money... hopefully.

AM2 will cost u a fortune, not to mention how support will be sparse due to the fact that plenty o' people at guru3d wont have one yet :(. if u asked me, i'd hoard my money and save up for an 8 series nvidia card with 100% DX10 support and maybe AM2 when prices start falling from that high ledge... have yet to see how vista turns out.

I think it will be the fastest card when it comes. But also hope that it is not very expensive, specification are very impressive though.

Nvidia already announced that it will be out Q3-Q4 2006.
The g71 will outpreform the 7800 GTX 512 by a long shot, even with the CPU bottlnecks. We will see some more previews of it soon, nvidia realesed it to the manufacturers.

I dont think it'll cost a fortune tbh. No doubt AMD will be releasing a full range of CPU's equivelent to the current 939 parts, just probably with a faster FX-62 or something to entice enthusiasts. I expect them to be similarly priced for their equivently performing 939 chip, with the exception of the FX-62 which of course will be about $1000US LOL.
When they moved from AXP to A64, i remember a 3000+ 64 being around the same price as an AXP 3200+, and performing around the same too. I think they will be pretty good from the get-go.

Sounds pretty crazy for a newer card to be coming out already, maybe they'll make a new mobile version of this too?

I have just got myself a new mobo to upgrade to PCI-E and was waiting for the 512GTX's to become available.

    Do I get a 512, or get a G71? ARGH!

I'll be most likely replacing my GT's with a single G71 when it is released. A faster setup without the SLI quirks? Yes please.

Maybe I'll go into the SLI market when this hits the shelves. Seems like it'd be a good time to do so. Prolly could pick up a 7800 GT for around $200 online, if not less.

I'll say this.. getting the G71 or 7900 GTX might be easier to get than the 7800 GTX 512 card.. I know for BFGTech you almost have to sell your soul to the devil to find one under 700$ and expect it within a week to be shipped from anywhere. I've called BFG several times and sent many emails looking for a ETA on the cards to whoever they were sending them to, to be sold. NEVER did I ever get a solid answer or a replay saying yeah they are going here. I saw one time from space something that sold them they had the price at 640$ but out of stock.. the second they came in stock they sold for 999$!!! Thats just crazy!! So they better hold the damn cards for a few months and stock pile them before release so people will accually be able to get there hands on one if needing. I'm a dedicated BFG customer but man are they making the suckers by hand with 3 guys working 24/7?????
