As with all updates I redid the ini file and compared what was changed.

Mounted combat is awesome. At long last I don't have to get off my horse to deal with those pesky wolves! :D

i wonder if i should try the beta, last time i updated to 1.5 it broke AO for nvidia cards (forced AO in CP). Not sure if horse combat is gonna be useful in my assassin anyway (i just walk/run liek crazy)

Same for me. And i find my game crashes more often when i ride a lot.
Guess my assassin/thief rather stays on foot. :)

i wonder if NPCs can use horse combat as well, hope they do (if not mods ca do it anyway)

I haven't tried the beta yet but I'm pretty sure NPC's can't use horses at all without certain mods.

NPC can use horses (There's some random encounter where you'll see a riding noble escorted by some guards for example.) though it's not that often they do it and for companions you indeed need a mod to allow them to use horses.

For mounted combat I imagine it can be scripted now that this patch allows that function but I imagine any mounted NPC will currently dismount and attack on foot if you start combat against them. :)
(Horses aren't all too uncommon but there's really not that many NPC whom use them.)

Yes, that's true there are some rare scripted encounters with noblemen riding horses and of course the headless horseman, possibly some I've missed, but as they are scripted they do not reflect the standard actions NPCs are allowed to do.

Though they do show that there are mechanics in place to at least mod this functionality further. :)

Might require SKSE improvements but I guess it's only a matter of time before someone starts adding mounted enemies, there's already a few different variety of mounts or standard creatures rigged to be able to be ridden on but we'll see.
(Armored giant on armored mammoth war mount, ha ha or a Falmer riding a chaurus, heh.)

EDIT: Draugr on skeletal dragons would work too. :D

(Beyond the standard mounted guards or bandits and mounted civil war combat and the like I guess.)

Yes, a mounted skeletal dragon swooping down and attacking or a draugr shouting from a distance while mounting it would be cool :)

Stuttering Problem (fps high - VMEM not saturated)

    - fully updated
    - 1920X1080 59Hz
    - I7 920@4GHz
    - 4GB DDR3 1600
    - HD6950@6970 950/1350
    - Windows 7 64bit

    outside - 40-60 fps (stuttering)
inside doungeon 60 fps (no stuttering)

(STEP Mod "core" installed but vmem not saturated)

I tried fps limiter, d3doverrider, bandicam set to 60 and Dxtory set in this way:

(basically I just popped limit to 60 fps in this tab without changing anything else)

    Nothing to do ...

Someone tell me why my FPS drops from 97 to 58 simply by changing these to 1024
    iWaterReflectHeight=512
    iWaterReflectWidth=512

i mean come on, thats a 40 fps drop. maybe it has to do with the water mod?

Could do if the normal map water textures were increased, 2048x2048 resolution and then scaling the reflection 4x (Four 512x512 textures fit in a 1024x1024 texture or how I should explain it.) is probably quite demanding, same if you've tweaked the ini file to make use of high resolution reflections and some other things or so I assume.
(Enabling high-res reflections doesn't seem to do much either for visuals or framerate but using the second option to try and force it sends FPS down to single digit values for some funny reason, guess it's incompatible with that setting.)

EDIT: Or saved as some 16MB near-uncompressed .dds file, that would probably also factor in.

Robox1... I had the same thing, high frame rates, but constant stutters on my HD6950... I would get them in dungeons too. I was told it was due to to the engine running at 64hz internally, or something, but since changing cards to this GTX670 I suffer no stutters at all... so I now wonder if it tends to be more of a problem with AMD cards and the Skyrim engine, or the AMD drivers and how they interact with it.

I tried every Catalyst set going, and every tweak trying to resolve it (even lowest settings), but the stutters were always there... and it drove me mad.

No help I know, but your certainly not alone in seeing this.

Dont use those funky "Force hi res reflection" switches or that kind of stuff like Jonas said. The engine is so patched up that there are tons of variables that do nothing or fck up the performance for no apparent reason (for example, some "threading" switches seem to cause CTDs for some people, and for others they do nothing, and so on).

Though to be fair, reflections are a hard spot for any engine. They're just plain hard to make without making them very low quality and/or with single digit fps.

Its just better to make the change in the ini, see if there is any result, and if there isnt something noticeable, leave it at its default value instead of leaving it on "just in case".
