This was a fairly unique superstore for the PC builder and other tech geeks. If you needed a random motherboard, they might actually have it in stock. Power supplies, etc, etc. While my store (Renton) is an hour away and I rarely went, it was nice to have them and I'm sad to see them go. story link: Fry's Electronics suddenly went out of business
they were good and tend to cheaper then most place, but they were hard to find in someplace. I think before pandemic is over we might see more of smaller shops go
Never been to a Fry's. Heard about it but there weren't any near me. It sucks though to see any business close down.
there was one by me in NJ if I remeber correctly walking to the store felt like I walking to in high class store, I could be remebering wrong though there few electronic store like that around the same area
Last time I visited their website/online store (couple years ago), they did not have a single current gpu, cpu, or ram. It was a trinket store for old hardware. So this was going to happen. Shame, bought all my parts for my first build from one of their stores.
"Hey I notice you never have anything in stock... " - Me "Oh yeah we're thriving" - Fry's um... okay... well have a nice one... company is like freakin out of business now. Yeah no one saw this coming hard eye roll Microcenter has great customer service, good inventory overall, clean stores that are well-maintained, and treats their staff well. Fry's Electronics was the polar opposite. haha I hear yah but as soon as I read this I chuckled and thought of the seedy strip joint that was on my way home from my old job that went almost as soon as the pandemic started - it did give me a good laugh...
Where have you been man? Online strippers from Russia and Columbia are the new trend. From what I hear..
I shopped at a Fry's in suburban Chicago back in 2015. While it seemed very plush for an electronics outfit, I also felt like I was in a casino or jewelry store, or some such. It just seemed like every shopper was being watched and scrutinized very intensely. About 5200 cameras, if I found them all. Going through the check-out line felt like you were entering a Federal courthouse or something. I am not lying when I tell you the cashier was wearing a green eye-shade. Upon emerging, the normal elation a shopper has that you found what you were looking for, was tempered with the feeling that, this time, you somehow managed to survive.
For some reason the green eye shade got me ... could just have been my old local store and the folks they hired but man ... cream of the crop they were NOT! *in all fairness I asked to see the pay scale once out of curiosity (because of the above - yeah yeah) and it was just atrocious like you'd be so much better working at Burger King - which I personally enjoyed service work... but hey to each their own... or better yet you'd have been better off at Fry's Grocery lol!
