    hi everyone,

I'm new to the overclocking and pretty much high end pc's. here is my problem, i had 2 3870's in crossfire and i got around 13400 in 3dmark06 now i just got a HIS 4870 and when i ran 3dmark06 i got 12300 =(

im using an ASUS M3A32-MVP mobo
    HIS 4870
    Phenom 9850
    and ddr2 1066 RAM GSkill

first thing that's bothering me is that GPU-Z doesn't even say my PCI-E is 2.0, im not sure if that matters but i've seen some screenshots that say it and the other thing is that my mem looks like its not running like 1066. Here are some screenshots, if you guys need more tell me what to take and i'll post it. i would really love some feedback because i don't want to have to go back to the 3970's. although im not even sure if they are better than 1 single 4870.

    Hi and welcome

The fill rate and bandwidth n stuff is lower on yours than mine.....

    Pixel Fillrate - Yours 12.6gb Mine 17.6gb
    Texture Fillrate - Yours 25.3gt Mine 44.0gt
Bandwidth - Yours 70.4gb Mine 110+gb (GPUZ misreports cos of the beta driver)

Unsure of the reason, but this will probably explain the lower performance....

    Strange , here :

    Pixel Fillrate : 12.6
    Texture Fillrate : 31.6
    Bandwidth : 128.0

And my performace is outstanding, 8500 GPU score in Vantage and 16k in 06, i doubt there is something wrong with my card.
i think GPUz pulls these numbers out of ass :p.

to OP : Can you run wantage in performace mode and post GPU score ? 3Dmark 06 is rubbish benchamrk for new cards.

tbh y are u comparing the 3D mark score of 2x3870's to 1 4870. plus 3D mark 06 is not a gd benchmark to run.

ig you read my post i said im new to this, i actually didn't know that the 48xx line was not a 3dmark06 friendly card. i will try vantage in a few minutes and post the results.

i am usin the hot fix drivers, maybe that's whats lowering the number =/ i guess i can try a fresh install with the cd drivers. Anyway, i'll go change the drivers and try vantage.

I think that to be on the same performance level with just one card with less power draw it's amazing, in games i'm sure it will be faster.

The 4800 cards seem to have a problem with 3DMark06 - specifically with the SM 2.0 test. The 4850 is considerably slower in the SM 2.0 test for some reason.

Here is a direct comparision between my new 4850 and my previous 8800GT. The 8800 scores almost 600 points more mostly due to the higher SM 2.0 score. The 4850 was clocked at 685/2250 and the 8800 was at 680/2000.

I know it's just a benchmark but it bothers me anyway, lol.

    to OP :

Your Vantage GPU score is very nice, you should notice performace incrase in games over 2x 3870. Evrything is fine :).

its weird, when i clear the drivers and open gpuz i get the same bandwidth as you guys, now, i put the drivers ont he cd and it goes down to 70gb. could it be the HIS drivers?

which beta drivers are you guys using?

Rule #1 - NEVER EVER use the drivers that are on the install CD. They are usually gonna be way older than the latest ones on the manufacturers website.... or ATI's website in this case.

If you go to the front page of guru3d, you will see the 8.7 beta drivers... these are the ones you probably want. There are some 8.6 and 8.6 hotfix drivers also.
