They don't need to be the top. They need to be close enough so people will buy their products while offering better value for money.

No, you don't understand.. maybe this quote by my lord and savior Ricky Bobby will enlighten you - "If you ain't first, you're last!"

But yeah, I agree - AMD doesn't need to outright beat anyone, as long as they can compete at specific price tiers and close the gap enough that should give them a solid base to keep improving Zen. That being said, all the leaked benchmarks do make it appear that it's going to be pretty neck and neck in terms of performance. I'm probably going to end up buying one because **** Intel.

If the AMD cpu can deliver 80-90%+ of the performance of an i7 6900k @ ~50% of the price, I can't think that anyone will be disappointed...;)

Intel sells far more i5's than it does i7's, and more i3's than it does i5's, so of course, bang for the buck is as important to Intel buyers as it is to AMD buyers.

why would they do that? If they got that much performance it would cost less by % that it is slower. They are running business, not charity ffs....:3eyes:

youre thinking about it wrong, friend. its a testament more to intels frivolous markup than AMDs charity. id be surprised if the top zen chip is more than ~500 bucks. we all know the 6900k MSRP...

I am thinking about middle to high end chips that are not intel's top of the line. Sure, AMD may force inntel to drop prices somewhat, but don't expect Xeons under 999...As for 6900k, well, they do it because they can. I also imagine the volumes on stock are also low, so like xeons, it's intended for very "dedicated" people. It's not a real measurement for anything. 500$ bucks for CPU, jeez, I don't care who makes that, I am fine with 180-220$ range one. I can get 4xxx i5 in that range, a good one. Now let's see AMD's, next year. :)

PS: 4790K Delivers much much more than 50% of performance of 6900K and costs much less than 6900K. So intel did that already. But you want the latest and greatest and look at 500$ although that CPU at that price makes zero sense to anyone with a healthy head. :)

People underestimate the performance effects that errata on the CPU and early bioses can have. The results look very promising, can't wait for some proper benchmarks.
