Bullsh1t. Avast! Home is free for home use and it is a good antivirus software. AVG Free is fine too.
well, reading what brainmasher posted, I would say more than just scanning is needed. both suggestion by anarion are free and will thoroughly scan your files and will try to heal or repair your infected files. I use AVG myself.
