Hi guys. I was searching the netz for something and in a forum by pure luck, someone was pointing that reducing the FPS in certain games can make them work better. We do know the case of Split/Second and Blur. While the first game works at 30 the former works at 60+ and the smoothness between games. So, someone there, posted a FPS Limiter. He didn't make it i think. But well, here is it: Code: http://www.mediafire.com/?2zzggw2zmym It can be run in Command line or use the GUI which is made on Java. Didn't tried it, but i did run it and checked with AV and VirusTotal: Code: http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/f5f81ad07b9a2c008fd2d18886230338c8312de148be2bec49cde031ee6e5b45-1276486200 Maybe japamd can implement something like this to "RadeonPro" PS: I posted it here, but, since it works in any video card, maybe it has to be moved to another forum.
Hope this works for BFBC2, been trying to limit the FPS to 60 without using vsync as that just produces some lag.
http://rapidshare.com/files/160642187/FPS_Limiter_0.2.rar it works as this brasilian guy shows but only with dx9. http://www.adrenaline.com.br/forum/pc/240096-fps-limiter-v0-2-a.html
. What problems do high FPS cause? Tearing? I used D3D overrider and force triple buffering. I never see any problems with high frame rates, or lag.
This. However, nice find  /edit I just checked the files; it's an old program from 2007 that has been around for a while, I remember ppl using it to cap FarCry2 to 40 fps or FO3.... the nice addition it's the GUI, that will produce the .bat needed in conjuction with the game to run the limiter .... It won't work above DX9
No, in games like Blur, where there is a lot of graphics going on screen, high fps can cause microstutter and a lot of other anomalies. Just tried Blur and capped it to 31 fps and the result is smooth gameplay. Which before was impossible. Take a moment, and read this thread. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=322633
This looks nice, and could be handy even if it is just DX9. For those wondering why we would want to do such a thing, alot of people prefer a smoother framerate, which to me means having the minimum and maximum framerate as close together as possible, no point having an average FPS of something like 50fps if it occasionally dips much lower.
true but i prefer to run higher when u get a lot on-going on the screen so it wont go below 60. however i would love to run at 60 with no screen-tearing etc with no dips to 40 for example. however most games i have played this just doesnt happen. e.g total wars etc. assasins creed 2 whilst running with vsync does perform very well but even this suffers from momentary bits of lag. perhaps i should try with vsync and d3doveridder and triple buffering. i did have a go but for some some reason couldnt find the d3doverider section in rivatuner. was greyed out didnt exist..or maybe was being a noob. screen-tearing does depend on the game ofc. i can run mass effect 2 and res evil and games like napoleon and metro without seeing it (no vsync) but with assasins creed it's there. maybe that's why they forced the fps cap? (havent found a way around it yet..cos would like to turn it off n see).
Yeah, for the last 6months i have been running my games at 50hz with VSync via d3doverider, there isn't really much of a difference between 50 & 60 for most games, and the drop from 50 to say 35-40 is alot less noticeable than going from 60+fps dow to 35-40. I look for and even try and cause screen tear in a game to see if it i need VSync on, and so far Crysis is the only game that i can play with it off. Tearing is something i detest, and have returned various consoles games the next day for having it. D3DOverrider is seperate from RivaTuner, its not part of the app. Below is the default install location for it. C:\Program Files (x86)\RivaTuner v2.24 MSI Master Overclocking Arena 2009 edition\Tools\D3DOverrider
no need for d3doverrider mitzi76, install radeonpro (+give feedback plz ) http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=322031
Does that work with Direct3D games, is that not just automating driver settings, and last i looked ATI was the same as Nvidia and Triple Buffering was only able to be forced through the driver with OpenGL games.
you know a prime example of 3 game's that benefit hugely from a frame limiter is GTA 3, GTA VC, and GTA SA. I actually still play those occasionally, if you use the in game FL, your stuck at 30 fps which just plain sucks, if you dont use it your brakes are on all the time, and your mouse wont work right, plus your motorcycles sway back and forth when your stopped. I find it odd those are the only games Ive had issues with.
Can this tool be used to RAISE the framerate of, say, Split/Second from 30 fps to 60 fps? I'm guessing the answer is a resounding NO! but I'd thought I'd ask anyway.
Hey is there a reason why this FPS Limiter does not go higher than 100 FPS? It would be helpful to have a 120 at least.
