oohh look, excuses to continue increasing price of stuff.

But people in other threads of Nvidia discontinuing the 12GB 3080 loved to justify this kind of scummy behavior with "aktchually there was a real issue, therefore the JUSTIFIED price increase". Damn these dudes just became way too predictable, they do no even pretend anymore, straight forward pulling the Putin excuses are lame arguments.

    Global inflation box ... checked!

Lets see how many other of the classic trash excuses they come up with before launch.

They already did: NVIDIA reportedly wants to cut TSMC orders for next-gen RTX 40 GPUs 5nm wafers amid lower demand

These tech companies are really having a hard time coming up with real excuses, to continue to exploit consumers.

Good luck to them selling these overpriced cards to customers that continue to lose jobs to automation while housing, food, utilities, transportation costs are all increasing.

I will not support any more price hikes, no matter how small. If prices increase yet again for the same tier of card, I will buy used or not at all.

How gullible are you :D These cards will be sold out day 1 and out of stock for weeks / months. As always...

After what happened last couple of years, Nvidia can release RTX4080 at 1100 EUR starting price and and everyone will think it's deal of the century, everyone will gobble it up. I can already see reviews for 4080 on all hardware sites "Top Pick", "Highly recommended", "Editor's Choice" etc. etc.

Why the price increases? Well they found out that they can jack them way up and people will still buy them. ESPECIALLY if there is scarcity (real or manufactured). Now, without the mining craze to help that along, will it continue to be the case? Time will tell.

Price gouging will continue for as long as consumers allow it to happen. You don't need a degree in economics or marketing to know that.

There's no real competition for TSMC, they do all major companies chips and have one of the most advanced processes.
Samsung has fabs yes, but they make their own products and have very few reserve for costumers.
Intel is just, Intel: they'll sell as high as they can.
GF was the last competitor and they quit the innovation race essentially creating room for these price increases.
If no one actually cares to compete with TSMC, these prices will only keep going up.

TSMC shares dropped in price, because the good days are over. No more mining and covid to increase demand.
And Samsung as announced the start of production of their 3nm GAA process node. Meaning more competition.
Increasing prices might just reduce demand even further.

Indeed. This time there even wasn't an excuse, just a laconic notification that the prices are going to rise.

Us gamers aside, the folks who really should start sweating are the game studios. Their earnings will drop when PC gamers give up and start looking for new hobbies.

You seem completely oblivious to the crypto crash and think same conditions that affected Ampere couple years ago are in place today. They are not. Initial release stocks of RTX 4000 series may be sold out in first couple weeks but there is massive inventory coming that cannot be moved at ridiculous prices.

They can increase prices but will have extra spare capacity that cannot be met with reduced demand expected over the next year.

    Indeed.

There will always be some few thousands of rich people worldwide that want the greatest and latest GPU at day 0, but once the initial swarm of them dies out, everyone else will think three times before spending so much money on a hobby.

These multi-billion companies do not stay multi-billion companies by selling only that initial batch, they do so by selling every day to average folk.
That "average" folk was miners in the last 1.5 years, not anymore.

    ---
I am seeing slow but steady decrease in average ETH hash rate every day, and while it takes time for the mining rigs to get disassembled and cards to reach the international market, they WILL reach them eventually.
Good luck to nvidia selling a 4080 for $1200 when one could pick a 3080 for under $400 on the 2nd hand market.

It's good that we're getting FSR 2.0 in everything moving forward. I'll be doing fine with my 5700XT for years and years.

It's why i only upgrade my GPU and CPU every 8 years, there is zero need to buy every single generation.

These conversations go on with every release of next gen graphics card, Nvidia and their partners will do as they've done for a number of years they will price them as high as they can and they will still sell simply because, regardless of the current climate there a people who will always want the newest card and can/will get credit with which to buy them.
