I think there are other things going on here because yet more ranting about things which no one has actually said...

im off to enjoy forza, maximum lol, you keep watching that frame counter :)

again, someone is jumping on a misguided rant and having a misguided rant...

forza cant do 60 fps solidly, thats kinda the missed point of it all...

you have two options, a stuttering game where frames fluctuate or a solid 30 fps lock.

its funny to watch this in action, one person starts ranting on about god knows what and the entire conversation is derailed into something which was never actually said.

the only darn thing said was this, the game is perfectly enjoyable at a solid 30 fps. some folk think we are making this up and are just nuts, but thats the reality. Im enjoying the game immensely, others are enjoying the game immensely and its locked at 30fps.

Nothing about my statement was a misguiding rant. So toss off on that note.

Others are stating we dislike 30fps as well.
People who have said they are fine with 30fps, are also ones that cried about 30fps in other games.

Im happily enjoying the game but it no way will it be at 30 fps.
Its very smooth 95% of the time now with freesync between 40-60fps.
At medium, I get 60fps constant but it doesnt look as good as Id like.

toss off on that note? you guys get angry and sweary..

yeah your misguided because even you cant get a 100% solid 60fps and tell us its one thing to lock if our systems cant...

well funny but thats exactly how this how darn conversation started, that a few of us cant get a 100% solid 60fps so we chose to lock it... so oddly, hypocrisy on this topic isnt coming from us, its actually coming from you....

its like Chinese whispers, someone gets upset about something literally no one said, then others jump in with outrage about the thing that again wasnt said...

we cant get a solid fram rate so we lock it, not ideal, not what we would like but STILL we can enjoy the game. its nuts watching this, the 30fps thing REALLY triggers some folk.

anyway, I just had lots of fun playing forza at 30fps, not once getting distracted with slow down or stuttering, so how I dont know, but Im managing to really have lots and lots of fun playing this game. Im off my head clearly, I should be on the floor with bleeding eyes and puking, or whipping myself with sticks for the shame I have brought onto the glorious master race :D

anyway, really getting further into the game and the cars are a joy...

edit: and Im so done with the 30 fps guff, lets get back to talking about this amazing game.... so by all means put me in my place for being a pseudo console peasant, but stick to whats actually been said and then lets move on...:)

Im not angry, Im blunt. Maybe you are far to sensitive.

Ive tried 30, 40,50, 60, and even 80 fps on low. Anything under 40 just sucks.
My eye can tell when under 40. The game feels fine at 30. Just dont like it in motion.

Wonder how the guys with only 4 cores game is running now?
It runs a bit better with HyperThreading off but Im just gonna keep it on.

I got it working but what I had to do was I had to manually install the Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter and then do the registry fix to enable it. Predictably though I do terrible in online play. I got a DNF in 6 straight cross country races and couldn't capture a single flag in those games. Originally the Xbox app said it could not establish an ipv6 address and there was nothing showing in my Device Manager for Teredo. Not even in hidden devices. If it's supposed to be built in, it wasn't in my system.

Lots of arguing about personal preference, there is no conclusion to that.

I could not tolerate 40-60fps, I would have to cap it to 30 or even run v-sync at 50hz.
Isn't it nice to have all these choices?

(.)(.) is just angry at everything, it's kinda his thing.
Sounds depressing to me though, each to their own though.

To say 30 fps is a stuttering mess is as extreme a statement as saying you can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 FPS.

Same as to say everybody has the same brain when it comes to 30 fps "smoothness". For example, I can't stand 30 FPS for more than a few minutes before it gives me heavy headache, and depending on the game, nausea. For me it definitely is a stuttering mess when I can almost count each frame. Motion blur helps a ton if it's well done and the game isn't fast paced, but then it will more often than not look like crap at such framerates :(
Though, I have to admit, Forza Horizon 3 is one of these games where it's very well done. I still wouldn't play it at 30 FPS, as good as it can be.

Thankfully my game is running at a locked 60FPS 99% of the time as long as I'm disabling CPU core 0 affinity for the process (1% being the start of *some* night races in Surfer's Paradise, where it drops to about 45-50FPS for 2-5 secs during the burnouts). For some reason it's only happening at night.
Virtually no more stutter since last patch. I mean like a single zone loading stutter in 4-5 hours gameplay (it was more like 600-800 before last patch).

My settings are a mix of high and max settings, using "only" msaax2, and downsampling from 1620p to 1080p. For my setup, disabling anisotropic filtering ingame and forcing x16 with inspector coupled with high shadows and 60FPS lock (I have a 120Hz display) is smooth, when ingame AF + very high shadows is stuttery.

I almost can't believe that, but fair enough... you can get used to most things and my guess is you've been used to 60 FPS most of your life.

Well, when I was younger it wasn't an issue. It didn't feel wrong to play PAL N64 OOT at 15 FPS or Goldeneye 64 at 12.5 FPS. The last console I've owned was the PS2 and it did start to be an issue for me around that time. Long sessions of FFX for example gave me headaches (25 FPS), while Gran Turismo 3 didn't (50 FPS). So no, I've not been used to 60 FPS most of my life. But since 11-12 years I'm staying away from consoles and 30 FPS locked games for sure, and when I'm "forced" to endure it when I'm not home, I will always make sure that I know where the toilets are or that there's a bucket around.

Damn, that's a real handicap right there :p never met a person with such extreme reaction to 30 fps. I've heard about motion sickness or seizures induced by video games but not actual/genuine nausea from a frame rate. Guess there's a first for everything.

Personally it starts to tick me off if it falls below 20 fps. Only then it becomes unplayable/unenjoyable.

There is no point in arguing about this like others say it's personal preference.

Of course it is better to be able to have 60fps (or even more) but it is not end of the world for some people otherwise. So me being ok with consistent 30 fps does not mean that I can't see or deny the difference between 30 & 60 fps.

Also not all 30 fps games are the same. I can't tolerate going under the 30 for even a split second though so it needs to be a solid 30 fps.

Mafia III before the patch was very choppy at 30 fps and not smooth at all but Driveclub was rock solid 30 fps and very smooth even though it is a much faster game.

Midnight Club L.A was my favorite arcade racer and I had insane amount of fun playing that game. I don't think it was running at 60fps even though it was giving insane sense of speed and near misses there were really feeling like near misses :)

FH3 also had issues with it's 30fps lock at launch later it is fixed. I was playing this 35fps lock via nvidia inspector then and still playing it that way now and to me it looks and feels fine to me

I guess we all have our twists :D

I thought it was an issue with my eyes at first, but nope. I have a perfect vision, no glasses, I don't have vertigo nor inner ear issues, not epileptic, good spatial perception, I can see stereoscopic 3D effect and differentiate 60, 120 and 165 FPS (I haven't seen more than a 165Hz display yet).. It doesn't seem like I'm special to my doctor and many people are in the same case apparently.

So yeah, all that to say that we can't just say "30 FPS is enough to enjoy a game". While it may be true for some if not most players, it can make some people sick to some extent. And when you're sick, you're most likely not enjoying yourself :D

So let's accept each other and respect the ones who say 30 FPS is ok as much as the ones who say it's not. My only hope is that developers (and I'm one of them) and editors will push forward on the framerate side, and stop the "cinematic feel" BS. Being passive in front of the screen is very different from playing to begin with, but even then, watching a movie in a cinema is exhausting for someone like me who's sensible to stuttering. Who wants such feeling while active/concentratred and playing ?!

By the way, I love FH3 and I wish Turn10 and MS will find a way for everyone to enjoy it. I shouldn't need to tweak core affinity for the game to be smooth in the first place, and when I see how many people are having issues with performance while sporting some GTX1080 or Titan XP with i7s.. Well.. There's definitely something to fix here.

That could very well be so and I cannot argue against it since I've not seen it.

Trust me mate, it's not about showing it off to others :) There are a lot of people out there who have better hardware than me and that's totally fine.

What bugs me is that some developers get away with creating really awful ports like Deus Ex and especially Mafia (released with a 30fps lock, I mean really...). UWP has a terrible track record until Gears of War 4 which I've heard runs surprisingly well on most hardware.

I remember reading about the game in the first few posts in this thread when it was released - not one positive comments. Everyone was like "Omg, it runs like crap". Why locking the game to one core for example? It's really difficult to understand why the developer would decide to do such a thing. Sure, later positive reactions started to appear, mostly from people with powerful CPUs.

But I hope you understand why I'm reluctant and somewhat suspicious, especially when the game costs a whopping 60€.

Once again, 30fps might be great for you but that doesn't mean it's great for everyone :)

Console players should have no problem with 30fps since that's the way they play. I on the other hand am not a console player, but I owned a PS4 and tried disregarding the 30fps lock but I couldn't, I'm simply so used to high frame rates. And most important of all, I've chosen this by buying high-end hardware. If I was playing on a dual core with a GTX680 I wouldn't be able to complain since I'd have low framerates anyway.

You know what guys, f*ck it...I'll buy the damn game and we'll see what we'll see :D
I'll start playing on my telly, 1080p/60fps no MSAA should be doable...I hope :)
Can report back with my findings. If the results are atrocious I've heart that M$ can refund. Plus it will be interesting to have tried buying something in the W10 store.

For me console games are playable on 30 fps, but in order to play like that I have to game on CRT. On my old CRT monitor/tv, with zero imput lag I can play most xbox 360 games without even thinking about the framerate. But when I play my xbox 360 games on HDTV (lcd or plasma) with input lag 20ms (it's still considered low for HDTV) I can already see that something is wrong with controls and the same game doesn't feel smooth enough.

And BTW. not every game feels the same at 30, or 60fps. On PC I can play most games @60fps, but some games are unplayable for me even at 60fps (for example crysis 3) because of unresponsive controls, while some other games (especialy very old games like Enclave) have responsive controls even at 30fps :).

Yes. Please. I've been holding off and choosing between this and Civ VI since FH3 launched. Granted, you're on Pascal/Skylake and I'm on Maxwell/Haswell so nothing you experience will likely have any bearing on what I would experience, I'm still super curious.

My wallet is protesting loudly though :D Haven't payed this much for a PC game since I bought BF4 + Premium.
