Wow! Major temperature drop with these drivers. My 7600GT has typically idled around 46-50 with any driver but with these I'm at a cool 38 degrees celcius. I'm getting ready to test out Call of Duty 2 and 3dMark05, I'll post impressions and results soon.

Hey, ive been meaning to ask somone who has a 7600GT and has cod2 a question. What kind of fps do you get with Dx9? And if you havent already, do /com_maxfps 333 in console (~ key).

I was pretty stand offish with this driver set, due to the fact its an early 87xx build, and also the drivers date is pretty old. But i think with some tweaking these can perform.

I haven't ran any kind of benchmark with COD 2 but I have monitored my framerates with fraps on a few occassions. For the most part I'd say I average 30-50fps. There are a few times mainly during Pointe Du Hoc and The Tiger level where it can dip into the 20's during really chaotic moments. But for the most part the overall experience is smooth. I run the game at 1024x768 with everything maxed except I do turn shadows off because they're a big performance killer and I don't really miss them.

Damn in Dx9? Thats not bad at all. Turn off vsynch and ejecting brass as well, that will boost performance a bit more.

That's a big increase in 3DMark scores, so they're definitely worth a try for me. I thought the improvements might be limited to 7*00 series cards, so it's nice to see that they benefit 6800 cards too :).

I'll post my findings later on (going to bed).

Yeah its a huge increase. I even benched 3dmark05 3 times over just to make sure with each driver.

Tested these on 3dMark05, 06 and CSS stress test and i'm not impressed.

    3dMark05:
    FW84.66 : 7308
    FW87.08 : 7193

    3dMark06
    FW84.66 : 3783
    FW87.08 : 3748

    CSS:
    FW84.66 : 179.53 fps
    FW87.08 : 175.99 fps

    X3 Reunion demo:
    FW84.66 : 54.629
    FW87.08 : 54.631

    XFX 7800GT XXX (450/1050)
    Athlon 64 3700+ SD @ 2800Mhz

Probably these just don't do anything for single core cpus.

I've read at nvnews forum that they are supposed to give a 20 to 30% boost on Dual core.
And it seems there is a option called "Threaded Optimization" in the Advanced opitions, but i can't find it. Maybe it just doesnt't appear on systems with a single core cpu.
Can someone with a dual core can verify this.

Yes i have an X2 and i have 2 new options.

    1. Threaded Optimisation [ on - off - auto ] = On

    2. OpenGL error reporting [ on - off ] = Off

    ;)

    Edit:

Both appear at the bottom of the 'Performance and Quality' menu, directly beneath ' Negative LOD bias '
