No-one's being a smart arse MoNkEy_mAn, if it came across that way then my apologies.
I was simply quoting nVidia which state that the only difference with the 78.01 driver was added support for the geForce 6500 card.

    . . . 78.03 has "Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0c and OpenGL® 2.0 support"

I have Directx9.0c on my system, so does this mean a better QUALITY or PERFORMANCE (framerate) increase in game?

Ok Darkoz, sorry man, I was trying to state that going from 77.77 modded (banned modders) to 78.01 WHQL Nvidia, it was a pretty big change especially for BF2, mind you this might just be because of the change from modded to official (and I did Cab cleaner for the first time).

    kevinti2005 -
This is just Nvidia stating that if you have new hardware (GeForce 6 or 7 series) that these drivers fully support the OpenGL and DirectX features, and they will work well (in most cases, you need to try them yourself) on supported hardware.

    Hi Monkey_man,
I'd got 6800GT, I'm currently on 77.77 WHQL. OK, I will download 78.03 beta to try it out!

    Thanks!:)

I'm using HDR 2 in Far Cry and I don't seem to have the problem. Also, the profile bug is also not affecting me. Might be because I use Nhancer to edit game profiles instead.

its odd cause i have no shimmering problems in any game that uses HDR this includes Farcry. I'm on v78.01 and don't see a reason to upgrade to 78.03 being it doesn't do anything more than fix a glitch I don't have. Still I'm anxious to see benchmarks :)

as for the Dx9.0c and openGL2.0 support. Nvidia drivers have been supporting those 2 features for at least the past 5 months.. its nothing new. Every driver version since at least the 76.xx drivers have been saying that. It really is just stating that its optimized for those versions and may provide benefits.

"Shimmering" what in the world are you people talking about. I run a 7800GTX at the shop and i have no "shimmering" on these or any previous drivers. Even on my home rig which is listed in my specs...no shimmering. I think your problems are somewhere else...HDR works perfectly fine in FARCRY for me as well. I run it at 7 perfectly...even cranked it up to 10..no problems...and YES ITS A VIA CHIPSET...dont start with that mess...

Also i run 3dmark03-05 w/o fail. Try driver cleaner and run again to the post above.

OMG you use a VIA~ with an Nvidia card haha okay okay just teasing :) My friend wayne has the same set up just he uses a Ti4200 and via... works just fine.

What concerns me is the black screening on 3dmark.. perhaps its something to do with tweaks done on the card after the new drivers or perhaps the3dmark profile is screwed up with this release..

I don't think a lot of people understand what the shimmering issue is....
The problem exists for people with 7800 cards and you can read about it here.

    http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22576

So people who don't have 7800 cards are not affected so don't say that the problem doesn't exist when you have a 6800gt for instance.

Read the thread above before making comments please.

7 series owners are affected (because b4 shimmering wouldn't disappear even after putting HQ) but the latest drivers fixes that... if you put the gfx quality to high quality... no shimmering

its the same for 6 series owners... if you put gfx quality to HQ shimmering will be gone

Nomatter what Nvidia wrote, it is not the hole truth. I have a 7800GTX, and I have seen some nice improvement going from 77.77 to 78.01, especially in GTR and F1 Challenge '98-'02. :D

  16. 1. shimmering does exist on 6 series cards but it's more of a problem on 7 series.

    2. if you don't notice shimmering, GOOD. once you notice it, it'll drive you insane.

    3. damnit nubs, the only difference between 77.77 to 78.01 is added support for 6500 card.

    4. no need to change drivers to fix the farcry hdr bug. just rename the farcry executable to something else like 'facry'.

Does it fix the shiny sandbags in BF2 or is that a problem with BF2? I have noticed that with Texture Filtering in BF2 set to medium that the sandbags are all shiny but with Texture Filtering on high it doesn't seem to happen and they look normal. What does the FarCry HDR bug look like, I heard some people say it made the lighting all red or something.

Nomatter how many times you write this, it is not right. In GTR and F1 Challenge '98-'02 (same engine AFAIK), there is an improvement. Severel places on a lap, the fps drops shortly, giving you a kind of "stutter" in very shorts periods. This happens with 77.77 nd is 99% gone with 78.01, so in this it is you that is a noob ;)
I have also read the official text from Nvidia, but that does not make it more correct. If it is only 780GTX that have this improvement, I don't know, but here it is very clearly that 78.01 in these 2 games makes a difference.

77.30 / 77.37 are still the best for 6800 series imho.

Alright I got 5358 in 3DMerk05 which is down from the 5574 I got with 77.03 beta.
The temp bug is fixed in these and I haven't noticed any shiny sandbags in BF2 plus the gameplay is very smooth. Another thing I noticed is the colours aren't as bright as with some of the DNA or ________(banned ones lol) but the image quality is alright

I have been running the "BF2.exe" with "below normal priority" (right click the BF2.exe noobs in taskmanager) and that seems to have solved the odd connection problems like laggy frame rates and that annoying lost connection. I will run a few tests with framerates and see if they drop much with the "below normal priority" setting and I will give these drivers a bash at FarCry and report back my findings.

Do you mean the lines (shadows) across the ground and on buildings and stuff, yeah they are there, I forgot about them. I can't remember which drivers I saw this in before but it's definetley a big problem and needs to be fixed before final release as I can't play it with that crap all over the place. I'd better post on Nvidia forums about this and see if they will fix it as it sucks big time. Darn I really like these drivers and won't be able to play FarCry till it's fixed.
