ok here is solution to problem... farcry2 doesnt start properly on vista with dx9 and 180.42... if you downgrade drivers to 178.x, you can start farcry2, switch to dx10 and then install 180.42 back and game will run fine...

I registered to the forum just then to say that when I install these drivers (from front page of this thread - Vista 64 bit) it actually installs Lego Digital Designer.

    !!??

.Exe has the Nvidia logo icon and everything. When clicking on the .exe, a message comes up saying extracting nVidia drivers etc, but then it proceeds to a prompt asking whether I'd like to install the lego thing!

    Crazy :nerd:

PS- I tried your method and it looks like its working now.. :)

Have you installed Lego Digital Designer on that system before? Looks like NVIDIA installer is just erroneously executing some old installer stored in your temporary folder.

Crysis warhead and in particular the levels with a lot of ice in them are a lot smoother with these drivers compared to 178.24 at 1920x1200, all set to gamer with SLI AA enabled at 8x. It's very smooth!

The other levels were smooth already, with 178.24.

Yeah, i've noticed the same thing... in the ice levels (especially when playing in DX10 mode) the frames increased significantly...

Oh, I forgot that. I'm talking about dx10. What's the use of having a nice DX10 capable SLI config if I wouldn't run games in DX10 :)

I've installed nVidia System Tools 6.03: with this software and 180.42 drivers is possible to manually set the speed of the fan. :)

for Farcry 2, heres the fix

"Ok guys that are getting the black window with no picture this is what you have to do. Right click on FarCry2.exe then click on properties, then click the compatability tab and tick the "Disable desktop composition" It works fine. Has trouble working with windows Aero.."

keepers on my Vista32bit machine running a BFG 9800GTX OCX card... benchmark results went up a good bit and performance in bf2 alone was enough for me.. I'll prob fire up Crysis Warhead again later to see how it runs. Those are really the only two games I'm playing right now.

I'll test the XP 32bit version on a XFX 8600GT card later too.

FYI: I extract the damn PhysX software out of them before I install... Nvidia really needs to remove these or give the option on the install to install them or not.
