    http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-7716-view-AMD-Phenom-II-X4-990.html

    Within the preparation of first 45 NM processors announcement ( phenom II X4 ) AMD company actively advertised their overclocking potential, AND recently we learned, that in the second quarter 2009 AMD is assembled to release the processor phenom II X4 950 (3.1 GHz).

    Associate yesterday reported the intentions of company to present before the end of year the following 45 NM processors phenom II X4 Socket AM3:

    * Phenom II X4 950 (3.1 GHz);
    * Phenom II X4 960 (3.2 GHz);
    * Phenom II X4 970 (3.3 GHz);
    * Phenom II X4 980 (3.4 GHz);
    * Phenom II X4 990 (3.5 GHz).

    All these processors according to associate , will have the level TDP not more than 125 W. The hyperTransport 3.0 frequency will be also increased from 3600 to 4000 MHz.

    i was all set to buy a 955 but then i found this so i think i will be waiting a tad bit longer to get an even better phenom II X4 990 now

    Problem is with this the fact that these processors are due for Q3/Q4 2009 and no where near.

    So in fact it makes sense.

    The problem is with waiting a tad bit longer is, there will be something better by the time you wait.

    the article i read specificlly said they would hit in Q2 2009 so i am getting either the phenom II 990 or i might go with a core i5 i heard they making a 3.6ghz version of that one when the first ones come out

    You should definitely look at reviews first. It's entirely possible that a 990 will overclock the same as a 920....Most P2s have no issues with getting to 3.5ghz.

    I'm a lil' skeptical about the Phenom II 990 coming out in Q2 as we just saw the release of the 955 and 945.

    I'd say Q3 2009 the earliest.

    That site dates at January 31st 2009 and doesn't even mention the amd 955. Who's to say it's at all accurate.

    yeh these rumors have been out for a while, even before the 955 release, it has been said the 960 was rebranded to the 955, I also agree with Iarwain that these will probs OC to the same range as the PII 940/955, depending on the price they could be rendered pointless, kinda like how its a waste to get a i7 965/975 over a 920 if u are going to OC

    There seems to be some confusion here because the AM3 X4 955 runs @ 3.2 GHz so how can there be a 960 at the same speed? This seems more logical to me.

    * Phenom II X4 950 (3.1 GHz);
    * Phenom II X4 955 (3.2 GHz);
    * Phenom II X4 960 (3.3 GHz);
    * Phenom II X4 965 (3.4 GHz);
    * Phenom II X4 970 (3.5 GHz).

    Edit: Forget it after thinking about it some more I think this info isn't likely to happen. :3eyes:

    Maybe. Maybe we'll get lucky and the 990 will be some kinda revision and binned?

    I imagine the 990 might have to be binned to reliably hit 3.5...

    I have a feeling it might be a 3.8 GHz part but will come out like end of year if they can manage that.

    it would just be nice if amd got sort of on par with intel with these whenever they come out....unfortunately they're still playing catch up. also, i would just get your stuff now because I have found if I wait to buy computer stuff, by the time it comes out newer better stuff is "jsut about to come out" and i wait for that, and etc etc etc...

    +1 Just find sumthing that is solid and priced right I say: like Phenom II 720 for mid end gamer, phenom 955 for highend gamer, i7 920 for high end user/multitasker IMO

    In my opinion, it depends on what you are planning to do with your rig. I was in the market for an i7 920 system but since I use my system mainly for gaming, watching moving and surfing, I decided to step on the AMD train and save some $$$. Although I can afford a i7 920 system I found spending €650,-- on a Mobo, memory and a processor a bit much. I've spend the €300,-- I saved on a GTX295 ;) instead of a GTX285. The X3 720 is a great over clocker and three cores are the sweet spot for gaming according to the reviews I've been reading. Good to see the i7's performing so well in synthetic benchmarks and applications I never use. Gaming wise this system kicks ass and the X3 720 is a very big bang for you buck.
    On the other end your C2D E6750 @ 3.2ghz should still do the job for gaming since most games today utilize 2 cores.

    thats the thing lol if u had read another post in the overclocking forum my cpu or motherboard has a mind of its own >.> it refuses to stay stable for over 1 week before i get a bsod on it and that happening once or twice every week gets to be frustrating.

    i think it is because the motherboard that i purchased was too cheap to be very good at overclocking or perhaps since it is over 3yrs old now my system it is just too old to stay stable above stock i not sure. here is a link to my board. i was trying to save money when i built this machine but i regret gettin the cheap board now i wont make that mistake again
