Anyone know how far off we are from this?
No idea - I tohut you could already fold on a 2900XT
I don't know, but your Q6600 would fold better then that 2900XT.
I too am interested in Folding on my 2900. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 2900 would be quite a bit more powerful than even a quadcore, no?
Edited, I was wrong.
you apparently dont understand how powerful a GPU can be.
Wait, I just remember something - I read once that this company used GPU power to crack passwords. They stated that a CPU will take a 500 page book and read it one page at a time, where a GPU will take the book, rip it into 1,000 pieces, and read all of them at the same time. So therefore, a GPU might be better at folding! I take back what I recently posted.
What would be cool tho, is F@H use GPU and CPU power to complete Work Units. But with that being said, the way they both work differently might mean that they couldn't work together.
Depends, ppd will be higher on the quad. But since you cant fold on the hd series of cards then theres no need to say it may be more powerful.
