SLI and CF very simple dyiing...
if realy need fast card buy TXP or wait for 1080Ti or maybe big Vega
SLI/CF absolutly depend on driver, an driver in last year , well no comment quality
as say colleags higher if working its ok but problem is "if working"
its very bad if you spend 1400e for 2x1080 and 80fps and you have 45(or less than one GK) because SLI not work

Not only the driver, but mainly the game engine.

As many others have already advised, I would go with Titan XP without a doubt, but only if you plan to watercool it properly. Otherwise just wait for newer cards.

A Titan XP at stock speeds would be inadequate for 4K 60Fps, not by much, but still you would find yourself in need for more power.

Overclocking the card past 2GHZ provides the needed boost to enjoy 4K 60Fps in most recent titles, and this only attainable with watercooling, as else it would go in thermal throttling.

    Titan X Pascal for now.

SLI later with a 2nd hand one.

Sell both and buy new single card.

    Rinse + repeat.
