Really :bang: last time I check as a gamer myself, i want the best i can get out of my hardware & last time I check a few days ago Windows 8.1 can give me just that with DX11.1 & DX11.2. just say you don't want to install Windows 8 because it don't have a start button, oh no or your too lazy to back up your data & reformat your computer. games performance on Windows 8 on AMD hardware is better then Windows 7 because they patch the problem with the FX processors. i'm more happy on Windows 8 then Windows 7. Windows 7 had too many issues with my SSD drive but in Windows 8, it's working great. also Windows 8 is more stable & thanks to the apps, it make things more easy like watching Netflix, talking to friends on Skype or reading my tweets all thanks to Windows 8 apps.

2 out of 5 people I ask who is a hardcore gamer told me that they didn't want to install Windows 8 because there to lazy to back up there data & reformat & the other one didn't want to install Windows 8 because it didn't had a start button.

show me a video comparison win8 vs 7 in gaming performance.
Until you do that or until i see that which i haven't, the videos i seen doesn't show any gain in performance at all. win7 from win xp a big difference. win8 from win7, nothing.

Actually WinXP is still faster than Win7/8 in certain Dx9 games.

I think i said the same thing more than once, but going back to windows 7 and using the right drivers, i would say no its not. The only game that ran faster in Xp over win7 was Need for speed hot pursuit. However , that's only because im using a q6600 with win7, meaning once i upgrade to a better more up to date CPU i am sure i will be able to run NFS HP the same way i ran it on XP. The only thing i haven't been able to figure out, why can i run nfs hp on xp at max settings at 1920x1080 and still get a solid 60 frame rate, but on Win7 with the same set up, it runs between 28-50. I just don't get it. So i m guessing q6600 with win7 is not very good with NFS HP.

But overall win7 is faster in games over XP.

    and win8 vs win7

Win8 uses less cpu resources, I had Q9450 @ 3.6ghz before and I saw a small difference by most cpu bound games - few fps faster and smoother gameplay.

JUST QQ DOESNT WORK FOR ME QQ GTFO and get banned already. What happened to your Vista lovin'? Oh yes, you made a complete U-turn in that thread and loved 7 ever since (while not making sense at all). :3eyes:

welcome to the forums. Just ignore the trolls.... The forum has a great ignore feature that works very well.

So, he stuck to his usual behavior? Not many of his posts actually do make any sense....

I haven't seen a video like you discribe, but the link I provided below does reflect the results I have seen on my PC.

Win 8 just feels faster in everything I do, even gaming.

There you go, still not worth the upgrade in my eyes. Plus that video is just part 1 of 4 videos. Windows 8 for me is a just hideous to look at, unpractical for mouse users and is focused too much on tablet and smartphone's where it still is not hitting the sales volume's that it should have. I hate the fact we don't have a start menu and we need third party apps in order to get some of the functionality back. Just because Windows 8 or 8.1 gives me a few fps more in certain games and few fps less in certain games does not give me enough of a push to upgrade.

"I have to use a third party app to get the functionality that also exists in Windows 8, since I have no ideia where it is or how it works and I just don't want to learn new things."

Because that's a more honest version of what you just said. Yes, I'm being mean, and I'm sorry for the troll, don't take it personally, it's just something which I've encountered multiple times and is slowly disappearing as people learn how to use it. Seriously, I've encountered many people that just like you hated 8 and now won't go back to 7.

But Windows 8.1 does improve a few things for desktop users. Having said that, while I understand that some of you guys struggle with Windows 8, there's honestly no reason for not being able to use 8.1 other than not wanting to learn how to use it..

Anyway, I tried Windows XP SP3 recently and I can say that there are no performance gains in DX9 titles. Right now the fastest OS are both 7 and 8, since there are no big diferences between them.

8.1 right now is the same as 8, but things might improve once drivers mature, we'll see.

hmmm, nice blog / review. Now looking at the information, it just seems like depending on the game you will get maybe 5 or 10 extra fps. Not worth the upgrade, but using less CPU is interesting.

LOL i think i will continue using win7, that menu and all of that stuff is just ugly

I'm with you Slayer. I'm sick of the Windows 8 bashing in Windows 8 threads. It reminds me of the Vista bashing, sure Vista sucked at release (the 4Gb memory bug during Vista install was pretty unforgivable) but since that got fixed I've had my home server running Vista 24/7 for years now without a problem.

I was lucky and got the £15 upgrade when Microsoft released 8, so upgraded both my desktop and laptop. I didn't even realise I got the pro version of 8 until the other day when i did a full reinstall as I'd just used the upgrade from 7 to 8 when i bought it so wanted to clean my system. It was the most painless install of any version of windows I've ever done.

Anyway, I find Windows 8 snappier, boots faster, loads programs faster, is more stable (yes i said it, had a few blue screens as they worked out the bugs with 7 but not a single blue/grey screen with 8) looks way better and has more info about your system at hand than any other version of Windows I've owned (at least the pro version), the task manager is loaded with stuff to help diagnose system hogs.

It took a couple of days to get used to it sure, but that's the same as any OS. I just don't think people have given it a chance and have jumped on the hate bandwagon (just like Vista).

The way i have it set up i use the start menu tiles for apps and programs, and the desktop for folder shortcuts that i use most regularly. I do a lot of 3D modeling, and animation so having quick access to texture, and video files is a must. Setting up 8 this way effectively doubles your desktop space while keeping everything neat and easily accessible. The windows key gives instant access to my programs without having to minimise windows or hunt through menu systems, it's just WAY quicker than anything else!

I have used dual monitors for years and Windows 8 is much more dual monitor friendly than any previous version of Windows. I just wish there was a way to lock the start menu to my second monitor when i want to, as it minimises when i go back to a window on my primary (anyone know if this is possible?).

I'm 34 so i still remember my DOS days and have used every single version of Windows since release. I think people forget what a bad OS is, Windows ME anyone?

If a bad OS upgrade makes your computer load faster, feel snappier, make you more productive in terms of file and program management then yes...windows 8 is a bad OS :S

I know there is problems with some old old windows games that run like crap on windows 8 compared to windows 7. why does a game that run with 200+ frames run at 30fps. and all my stuff is up to date.

website and some forums for old games are starting to take notice of this, and there is no fix for it so far.

I wounder how windows 8.1 is with these games.

one game red alert 2. runs really slow. but the fix that is giving, causes the game to run too fast.

so Im dualbooting windows 7 and windows 8

edit: I wanted to mention. that windows 7 in vmware in windows 8 has better performance then actually playing in windows 8. but then you only get generic sound.

its like having two girl friends. cant decided which one is better. each as it benefits.

I know we need new displaydrivers for windows 8.1 but does it also aply for chipset and/or audio drivers, otherwise i'll skip the update aslong as possible i'm not in the mood todo a clean install again.

You *might* have to install new drivers, but I don't see how a clean install is necessary. Install 8.1 and then install the newest drivers, that's it.
