OK I found that specviewperf program and the results Im getting honestly suck. Im wondering if theres some setting Im missing or screwing something up cause Im getting the same performance those other sites are getting with an unmodded 2600XT but mine is coming up as a fireglV5600 so Im wondering if Im missing something.

Is it the same version of specviewperf?
Maybe your resolution is higher? But I would still expect better results.

it's specview version 10 and I believe I'm running it at a lower resolution just 1280x960

    EDIT*

Also weird is that CPU-Z is showing my CPU speed at 1.5ghz when it's a Core 2 Duo E6600 that should be running at 2.4ghz

    *EDIT 2*

OK I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them and I can see while the test is running that it's running a **** load faster than it did before and yet when it spits out the results they're exactly the same as the previous numbers.

well I deleted the old results in the specviewperf folder and now can access my new results, though for some reason it won't do a test with out anti-aliasing

anyway here are my new results starting with 2x multisampling to 4x and then 8x

    # viewperfMS2result.txt
    # test weight frames/sec
    1 11.00 148.0
    2 11.00 91.50
    3 11.00 71.30
    4 11.00 127.0
    5 12.00 221.0
    6 11.00 184.0
    7 11.00 113.0
    8 11.00 113.0
    9 11.00 253.0
    * Composite Score : 136.84

    # viewperfMS4result.txt
    # test weight frames/sec
    1 11.00 42.40
    2 11.00 67.70
    3 11.00 40.80
    4 11.00 94.10
    5 12.00 146.0
    6 11.00 114.0
    7 11.00 76.30
    8 11.00 75.90
    9 11.00 142.0
    * Composite Score : 81.52

    # viewperfMS8result.txt
    # test weight frames/sec
    1 11.00 33.70
    2 11.00 46.40
    3 11.00 29.30
    4 11.00 71.60
    5 12.00 99.30
    6 11.00 83.20
    7 11.00 55.80
    8 11.00 55.90
    9 11.00 105.0
    * Composite Score : 59.47

Which are all much better than the non-antialiased version before where I was maxing at like 29.93

well I guess theres no need for any more talk about whether the drivers work... Interesting that the 512 mb version of the hd2900xt can be modded to the 8600.

All we need now are x64 drivers...

    Softimage XSI

I have problems with moded 2600pro to FireGL V3600 using XSI.

    1. Specview perf is showing great results. Same one my x1950xt moded to V7350 is showing.
    Specviewperf 10 (1280x1024 - No multithread)
    2600pro mod (AMD X25600) - Max 22, Maya 88
    x1950xt mod (Intel Q6600 @3GHZ) - Max 26, maya 84

    2. In XSI preferences there is option "Enable Hardware View Clipping" which is disabled if you are running gaming card. With 2600pro moded it is also disabled. With x1950xt moded it is enabled.

    3. Viewport in XSI is running much smoother with x1950xt moded when you orbit, pan, zoom, and select things and Im talking about scene 100 MB large. On the other hand "2600pro moded" performance in XSI is terrible. In modest large scene when I click on object I need to wait 1-3 seconds till object gets selected and it selects usually wrong one (one under the one I clicked on). also panning, zooming, orbiting is ****y.

So, I must say Im a bit reserved with this 2600pro mod. I belive that this is not issue with Ati drivers (since there is no "Enable Hardware View Clipping" in XSI) but issue with this moded drivers. But, why specviewperf is working Great?

    3DSMAX
It looks like it is smoother response in viewport from X1950xt moded than from 2600pro moded but Autodesk made improvements in Directx so you will probably not use OpenGL anyway.

and you've basically hit on the dirty little secret of the video card industry... they make 2 streams of video card usage, gamer and pro and sell both at completely different markups... when in reality, a lot of pro video card users also game as well and instead of dropping another sum of money to get a gamer card, they stick with their pro card and see some of that diminished performance when they know that they've dumped four digits on a pro card and get ****ty gaming performance... gamers shell out good money for a gaming card, see that it can be modded to a pro card because they will be getting 'pro' features and outside of the bragging rights they get little in return... at least a gaming card can be put back to defacto standard via the driver, but a pro card is stuck at a pro level and their gaming gets hurt in the process... i could be wrong, but i don't think so...

Maybe it is an issue with ATI drivers.

    Quote from MCAD Magazine:

These drivers are still in development, and it is a completely new architecture, so I wouldn't expect them to work perfectly. At least not until the cards are actually on the market. However, when they officialy become available for the customers, I expect that everything will be fixed, because they should be certified by CAD/DCC vendors.

So... Any news on the XP x64 version of the driver? I need a new graphix card asap but don't wanna waste too much of my hard earned cash. Anybody know if someone is working on the before mentioned driver? When might it surface?

Don't worry... You're not the only one waiting for x64 support with the firegl mod...

Think I may set up a dual boot til then...

As this mod works on hd2900xt, would it work on hd2900pro? The only diference in this 2 cards are the clock speeds right, so it should work on the Pro, and it also shouldn't matter if it was the 512mb or 1GB version right??

I'm more or less new to this modding, so sory if it's a stupid question...

it should... but you can never be sure on your specific model unless you try it.

Okey, I'm getting my new sistem tomorrow with the 2900pro card. Gues I can post some benchmarks (modded) for this card hance I haven't seen any on the net (if somebody needs'em)...

And maybe we could open a new topic with benchmarks for all the HD series...?

I would love to see those 2900pro benchmarks, specially if you can run the SPECapc maya test, which is more "real world like" than specviewperf (which is also good, anyway)

maybe we should open a new thread, even on a different sub-forum, but keep in mind that it is not only benchmarks that are useful here: it is the whole modding experience that I want to hear about (artifacts, issues with double monitor setups, etc., are quite more important than fps, I would guess)

    For XSI question:
Go to FILE-PREFERENCES in window that opens in it left column there is DISPLAY button.....click it and on right column under first tab GENERAL you are going to see Enable hardware view clipping
