Guru01 and I are seeing this. I think two reports of folders and their contents being deleted, is worthy of discussion. Has anyone else seen this?

I was gonna upgrade, but now I am worried about my 'video collection'.

This is just in the 'Downloads' folder. As far as I can tell it didn't affect any other files. It deleted all the folders in 'Downloads'.

I did. And for the Downloads, it has been and still is set to never and I have the feature disabled. But that was a good suggestion to check. :) Also that feature is supposed to clean the contents of the folders and not delete the folders themselves unless it works differently.

    Also from Windows Central:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-october-2018-update-seems-be-deleting-users-data

    ...and, a few other sources:

    https://mspoweruser.com/some-users-...-october-2018-update-is-deleting-their-files/

My three Windows 10 rigs now have the ethernet cables removed for the time being. But, I have the luxury of several additional PCs to use in their absence. It would seem that Microsoft has released yet another update into the wild without sufficient testing.

You mean the NEW entry in the "Disk Cleanup" tool that says "Downloads" will delete the downloads folder if you check it? My god!

The only thing that I've noticed is it changed the font size to lord's prayer on the head of a pin size in cmd prompt. Other than that not a single issue.

So let's say for argument sake that your Downloads folder gets emptied after updating. You DID backup your System drive before updating, RIGHT??!

    Which folder?

user files are always kept in boot partition

.....and the problem with MS (which i think) is the compression/decompression technique within x86 architectures having <2GB RAM.

    Edit: mine no prob

Don't leave your house, you know what will happen then ....
Seriously I think this could be a problem on either new clean install or someone who never uses disk cleanup. Maybe the default is to enable DL folder so when maintenance happens DL folder gets cleaned, don't really know, no issue here with that.

Even with Auto-Updates, it won't apply an OS revision upgrade w/o consent.

When I updated to the leaked 1809 RE5 iso all remained the same, nothing got deleted or reset, but I got that weird eventlog dcom permissions issues.. Also wanted to test if Quake crashes with older RS4 and sadly it did too, it was due to 411.xx driver...

So after seeing these extra numerous glitches I decided to stay at RS4 for now..

Check if OneDrive is syncing your folders. That would change their directory to a OneDrive directory. Disable sync and they should merge. It might be the issue here.

Yup, I have 10 in my stream machine 8350 & 770 video for tv it's you-tube tv and it's always freezing here and there and thats all I use it for it is just a big pain in azz, too much to go listing on here, and control over OS without having a bunch of prog's to tweak it, but my Ryzen 7 machine with win7 not even a glitch.

Why is that an argument? Of course I have backups and of course a lot of folks don't....and? Lets say 'for the sake of argument' it should never happen unless the user explicitly asks for and confirms deleting of files. Seems like a reasonable argument. ;)

    and

We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.
