Just before the weekend, the XFX Radeon RX 590 Fatboy surfaced onto the web. The XFX card looks rather similar to the RX 580 GTS as it has the very same cooler. ... Fatboy spotted - XFX Radeon RX 590
That would be pretty much ****** up naming. Anybody plan on releasing twin-tower-boomer (911 edition) video card?
Well, I feel pretty certain, in the absence of any official statement from XFX to the contrary, that the Fatboy moniker is a loose reference to the Harley-Davidson line of motorcycles known as the Fat Boy. And despite claims to the contrary, the last I heard was that Harley-Davidson's official stance on the name was that it did not reference the atomic bomb used during WW2. We have a 2005 Fat Boy in the family motor-pool. And, yeah, it's pretty fat. So is a Polaris-based graphics card that flirts with 1600+MHz right from the manufacturer. Maybe people wouldn't be so touchy if XFX had called it the Phatboy, but I'm glad they didn't. P.S. Here's a UK article I just discovered on the H-D Fat Boy: http://sumpmagazine.com/harley-davidson/harley-davidson-fat-boy.htm
I run a landscape business and FATBOY is an over rated large ZTR commercial mower like EXMARK and SCAG but is really just a fancy garbage mower with a spoiler, yes it has a car spoiler on the rear of the mower lol.
Better ask Raja POS trader that ruined AMD's GPU department Now Lisa Su has to yet again fix other peoples mess.
It is wide, but not tremendously so, if it was a true 3slot card I could see the name. heres an actual "Fatboy" Spoiler
Card in OP is like 2.5 slots. But radiator in there is tiny in comparison to ASUS HD-7979 card you posted.
The AMD Tsar Bomba although the real thing was only ever tested at half strength. (Although then again some would argue AMD GPU's haven't been able to quite hit 100% either in efficiency so maybe it might fit, Vega's doing alright but it still has it's bottlenecks for example.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_Bomba Fatboy seems like a weird name though, Fatbox perhaps if it's the cooler they're hinting but who knows with marketing really. EDIT: Hmm wonder if 2.5 or 3 slot can account for width too and not just height, actually would be pretty weird. (And a clear indicator that maybe the cooler isn't quite efficient enough.) EDIT: Though I suppose the name isn't as bad as some of the actual designs for GPU's over the years. (From https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/36gd00/found_the_ugliest_gpu_in_the_market/ ) Well history of GPU's that might be best forgotten aside it'll be interesting to see how these perform when released, guessing it'll be pretty close to the 580's but it'll be fun to hear more about these.
Made an account just to let you know that the "Fatboy" got listed for preorder on a Romanian eshop ar around €283 or $319, with 6 days delivery. https://www.pcgarage.ro/placi-video/xfx/radeon-rx-590-fatboy-oc-plus-8gb-gddr5-256-bit/ I think that's pretty good pricing on it considering that prices on hardware tend to be higher here. For what it's worth, it's at the same price level as RX 580 :/
It's clearly referencing the rocket launcher in the Fallout series. With Fallout 76 coming out very closely to the release of the Rx 590 it appears to be marketing aimed at that game.
You know you're right, I was mixing the Fatboy and Fatman up.... The Fatboy is below (from the older games). I know which one I like the look of better, lol.
Even if you can "flash" it, they won't be the same card, since they are not fabbed on the same technology.
