Here's how may game looks like now with Oxide's custom profile. getting 30-45fps or more.

If it worked for me I'm confident it will work for someone else out there.

the last 3 ubisoft games ive bought have had bad optimization...

    watch dogs
    ac unity
    now far cry 4

i might aswell say the division and rainbow six will be next on that list.

The best thing Oxide's profile did aside from making the game look stunning and run better was completely disabling the hud. Never expected it would make as much difference as it does but wow. Starting to actually enjoy the game at long last.

It's in his URL above linking to the Ubisoft forums. :)

Looks like the UltraHigh preset then scaled down to High for the individual settings with certain additions such as better ambient occlusion, enabling SDSM whatever it does, enabling Nvidia PCSS and it also toggles off most or all of the HUD settings, 2x MSAA is also set.

EDIT: No it doesn't scale it down to the "High" preset quality, that would only be the case if it used the "Custom" preset but it's using "UltraHigh" :)
(Which I think is all on aside from soft shadows which enables PCSS and HBAO+ and possibly the fur quality and godray effect is lowered a bit.)

Is there a best place to buy the game? I see Steam sells it. I'm going to buy it, so just curious if you can avoid Uplay.

There is no way to avoid Uplay you need it to activate the game.

Well did some quick tests with Oxide's profile and I must say it does work great with no noticeable difference in quality. With a FPS gain of 10-15FPS.

Click Image for full 2560x1440 for compare if you want to

    six hours + of playing.

sorry to disappoint but no issues at all for me.

frames are stable and smooth with ssao \ txaa*4 and full settings as i stated
before. im playing with a driver branch like 4-5 months old and everything
    works fine.

my only issue is the borders in 16:10.. the bars are annoying.
i tried to manually change couple of things in the .ini file, some member
here posted one or two replies about custom resolution.. it dosen't work
for me so im stuck with the bars.

game is very decent and fun to play.
    story is meh.

guess im lucky i didn't encounter all those stutter and other problems.

Seen a number of interesting animal encounters but this was new, quite a sight.

EDIT: Tried shooting it, missed the eagle but I hit the goat.

I tried Oxide's profile but unfortunately I didn't get any improvement, thanks anyway Oxide. I don't have any trouble getting the 60FPS I want, or so I'm getting shown in RivaTuner's OSD but it's the terrible stuttering that seems to come along with it even though I'm not dropping frames.

Oxide's profile worked well adding a few frames, putting me over 60FPS (I'm getting 45-55FPS with my normal profile and settings). Don't know if its a placebo effect or what but I don't think it looked quite as good as my previous settings. Either way stuttering still happened which is the one thing I wanted to alleviate. Cursor movement was noticeable better though so may be worth it for some people just for that! +1 for the good work :)

The eagles in this game are absolute evil bastards. Just trying to sneak up on a bunch of animals then suddenly get dive bombed.

the animal encounters are funny and add some immersion...saw an eagle take a pig then drop it 5sec later. the eagles can be annoying when trekking on foot though.

the xml from oxide helped my game out a lot. before it was playable on high/ssao/enhanced rays/fur. the mouse got better with some tweaking but always felt off, especially right when i was zeroing in on a target. oxides ultra runs smoother with more FPS and above all the mouse feels much better too.

i hope things get fixed since it is a good game. the environment is really nice and lively and the story is good enough for a SP campaign. my biggest gripe beyond the general non-optimization that i have come to expect is that there is no hardcore or other difficulty mode that removes all the blinking stuff and hints for every minor heavily repeated action... there will be mods im sure.

It's funny when the community can tweak the game better than the developer itself.
