Just bring back the hand held map and we're all good.

^ Nahhh, it's better having that huge minimap in the middle of the screen... :D

Seriously, the FC 3 HUD was atrocious.

FarCry2 was easily the best on the series, hope this one will be similar.

It's humorous how much difference there can be in opinions on this series.
FarCry 2 was easily the worst in the series... and I hope the games never go back to that.

FarCry 3 set a great template, it definitely peaked too soon... making the final island and main baddie a bit bland. But, it was still a great experience.

Back then my mates had a old dell pc, it could max it out without a problem.

And i remember people saying there is no PC that can run it, but they could lol.
I think it had a Radeon 9700 Pro in it and a Pentium 4 2,4ghz CPU.

Edit: lol, i've found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iWqGF4GziA

I remember playing FarCry at 640*480 at low settings until I updated my PC a bit.
Then I was so happy... 800*600 at medium. :)

FarCry3 is a joke. Some wannabe RPG with stupid characters, stupid crafting, generic and boring environment, downgraded graphics etc

So sorry my opinion was different from yours. It seems to have caused you some discomfort.
Well, take solace in the fact that your post did nothing to change my opinion. But, my opinion also does no damage to yours. So... this is completely pointless.

  12. I'm looking forward to this, I have thoroughly enjoyed the farcry series. Far cry 1 and 3 particularly. I enjoyed the visuals in FC2 at the time but what pissed me off the most was clearing a campsite, getting over the hill and realising ****, I forgot something, turn around and the NPC's I killed not a minute ago are now respawned. Other than that I actually quite enjoyed FC2.

Himalayas aye, Might need to upgrade my PC just prior to this games release. Will be following the development of FC4 for sure, anticipating its arrival.

Next-gen only is also a fantastic news, finally the shackles of the 360/PS3 are starting to be broken.

Careful there pilgrim...FC4 should take the good from both FC2 and FC3!

FC2 has some excellent qualities that were completely erased in FC3. There have been countless discussions and debates here and on other forums. I have been particularly vocal about it as I'm sure others here can attest.

FC3 was well received by people who enjoy awesome graphics and a brainless control system (aka, casual gamers). Realism is capped at how photographic the scenery looks and nothing more. The game has arcade style game play and completely scripted boss levels (not to mention all the QTE's). FC2 had none of these features which is why it did not sell as well. Quality is never mainstream by anyone's standards. Usually we are lucky to get it at all!

I would like FC4 to have the option to play with full realism...or in arcade mode for those who are completely satisfied playing games like "find your foot" or "peek-a-boo".

Far Cry 2 was not realistic by any strecht of the imagination, it was more "grounded" than Far Cry 3 I'll give you that but you can't make a case against Far Cry 3's focus on fun by praising Far Cry 2.

As far as I'm concerned : FC3>>>FC2 which I found boring as hell.
Far Cry 3 favours a more immediate approach to game design, it's purposely video gamey. Contrary to what you're implyinf this should put off casual gamers who tend to stick to narrative-driven games and look down on typical video game components. FC3 is colorful and cartoonish in its presentation and for all intents and purposes it fits the game design which is very accessible. The only downside of those games is that the learning curve is flat, no skill required.

Far Cry 3 is a game not ashamed of being one, Far Cry 2 aimed for a grounder game design but failed miserably at everything it tried.

The entire FarCry series was good - hopefully FC4 will be good as well. Although, I might have to get a second GPU to run it if it's as big of an increase in it's need of raw power as FC3 was over FC2.

Not to spark the usual debate but if FarCry 4 reinstates many of the elements that made FC2 such a strong outing (hand held map, change time of day on the fly, safehouses, etc etc) then it will be the best FarCry outing bar none I reckon.

I think the problem with the series is that the dev team spend to much time trying different things rather than finding a stock formula to build on for every entry in the series and as such, thats why we've ended up with extremely different experiences each time.

That'd be okay if it werent such a mess.

They needed to stirr the franchise in another direction after the commercial failure of FC2.
Glad they opted for something different, Far Cry 3 was one of the very best games of 2013.

I think Far Cry 4 will be very similar but more ambitious in scope (due to next-gen being the baseline). I expect bigger, more varied, destructible environments, more complex AI patterns and of course fantastic graphics.

Should be good. I expect the game to be revealed in Game Informer before E3.
