OMG must...have...m0ar...fps :bang:
Well I installed Fable 3 while I was playing L.A. Noire earlier and almost forgot about it. Anyway I played it for over an hour and kind of like it even though it feels very basic and the game holds your hand far too much. It's enjoyable enough in an RPG-lite way but its simplicity comes as a shock after The Witcher 2. The dog is cute though, it was literally the best thing about Fable 2 so it is great to have it back.
The graphics aren't that great but the art work is nice. Not so nice is the horrid performance which causes my PC to stutter and even pause for a few seconds intermittently. The game isn't even that demanding; with v-sync off in-game and forcing through D3DOverrider with Triple Buffering I get 60 fps when it isn't having an epileptic fit! It doesn't even have an AA setting either so there are more jaggies than I'd expect considering Microsoft claim this game has been enhanced for the PC. I see absolutely no evidence of it, very disappointing really. I've even had instances where the game's framerate has tanked to sub-25 fps from 60 fps for no apparent reason and Alt-Tabbing to the desktop fixes it. I'm unsure whether it's a game or driver issue but, whatever, it's bloody annoying.
Also what's with all the premium DLC available on Day One? Considering this game is six months late, we should have had all the content included free as a bonus like UbiSoft did with the last two Assassin's Creed games.
First off, Fable 3 is more of a casual game... You could almost think of it as something that would be on Facebook, bar the pretty graphics. Its certainly not like your average RPG.
I was dreading my copy unlocking on Steam after the forum was filled with complaints of crashing etc etc etc. I haven't had any crashes or any issues so far except that it does seem to run fairly badly on my 580s in SLI or not. Im getting 25-60fps no matter what settings. It does look great but i feel it should probably run far better. An option for real AA would be nice also. There is also some flickering of random textures. I watched the Angry Joe video and yes everything he said is true but for the most part none of these things feel like problems or real issues. The video added to my dread of the game unlocking but after playing for several hours i'd almost have to say none of the things he listed are real problems at all. I'm actually liking the way everything has been done.
When it comes to the game i'm really enjoying it which is quite unexpected. I was a big fan of the first Fable and when Fable 2 came out i was very unimpressed. I actually wanted to hate this game but i'm really enjoying it so far. Feels like its what Fable 2 should have been in the first place. I hear the ending is pretty much the same is Fable 2 which will be lame i guess but i'm not there yet.
If you like games that are a little more laid back and less 'hardcore' i don't see why anyone shouldn't give this one a go.
I haven't had any crashes either, Shagula, but the freezes are a little disconcerting. When memory usage is at 700 MB (out of 1.5 GB), GPU usage at less than 70% and temperaures are no higher than 67 C it's not the kind of issue you expect to see in a game as undemanding as this. It looks quite pretty at times, especially in the towns, but it shouldn't stress cards such that the game hitches and freezes.
The game feels a lot like a reskinned Fable 2 to be honest, not that it was a bad game but I expected it to be more distinctive. I do like the Jasper butler character, voiced wonderfully by John Cleese, but the user interface is cumbersome. To quit the game you have to press START to access the 'hub' then walk to the Options column and press A then FINALLY you can choose to quit! It all looks nice but after a while I just kept wishing everything could be accessed through a simple pause menu with text!!!
Yeah, sounds like there is a place for this and Witcher 2, more choice is always a good thing, so will probably pick this up at the end of the month.
Darren, the quit thing sounds like it could get boring after the first few times, does Alt+F4 work?
been playing fable 3 a bit more and i like it. the witcher 2 is also good. both games are good in their own way. can't really say the same for DA2 lol
preload complete! cant wait to play this!
The intermitent 2 second freezing and dips in framerate from 60 fps to 22 fps for no apparent reason (the latter can be resolved by Alt-Tabbing to the desktop and back) really does mar this game IMO. Hopefully it will be patched but it's annoying after the slickness and smooth running of the more demanding Witcher 2 that this console port should run so poorly on my machine.
Any idea where I can report these bugs as I've a feeling that Fable III won't sell very well so Lionhead may not be aware of these issues?
i am still in PRELAOD stage. as game is not available to my region(gifted from friend) i cant see when the game is OUT..
is this game is out in EU? and in Russia? what about other regions?
restarted steam but it doenst pop up..in task manager i see steamerrorreport.exe..wtf is that..i dont see any thing on screen.
hey darren, try here
mr bigtime, europe will get this game sometime in Q2 of 2011. i assume your country is included in that as well.
Thanks for the link, Firestorm. I reported the issue there and also started a post on the Lionhead forums in the hope that the developers will get to hear about it.
How wide spread are the performance issues anyway? Anyone know?
Is anyone here playing the game without any 2 second freezes or weird framerate dips that are fixed when Alt-Tabbing to the desktop and back to the game?
your welcome. i havent gotten hardly anywhere in this game. the only thing ive noticed is intermittent texture corruption with these new nvidia beta drivers when i was testing the game out. like how da2 use to get, but nowhere near as horrible. ive reported the issue to both companies.
Thank u firestorm.
My thoughts: a good introduction for the younger crowd to what an RPG is. My g/f loves this game where as I prefer Dragon Age 1 and 2.
Is there any way to remove the FPS cap? It could run so so so much better...
Disable v-sync and run a program called d3doverrider. That will give you a 60fps cap. Works in most games. Very handy. Messes up Windows though so disable it afterwards.
this game is awesome in co-op..also how is the game performing!?
This is a really fun game, animations are terrible, but besides that, just fun. I've played it more than The Witcher 2.
Are there any reviews out on the PC version?
I'm getting pretty awful FPS in the towns, especially the industrial one. I'm enjoying it so much that I can't be bothered to do anything about it. I've put in 20 hours and it's actually starting to get pretty tough now.
Has anyone figured out how to turn off motion blur without turning anything else off?
